Created in the Masegra Castle Cave, it's in a fantastic place. The interiors are in stones , rennovated in 1999.Unfortunately the food are of average quality, local dishes but not up to the mark.No sea food available, just meat and pizza(good pizza).Nothing special.Low attitude al the cleaning.I give positive vote and you can go one time just to see the place. Before or after the meals you can visit the Masegra Castle museum , collocates near the restaurant( take information about the opening time becouse it's almost close every day)

We ate in a huge room without windows (the main restaurant was occupied with a wedding). The place was unbelievable noisy. The primo piatto arrived 5 minutes after we ordered, the main course before we finished the primo piatto. After 30 minutes dinner was finished. The food though was good. Go there if you want a quick dinner but for a relaxing evening.

Suggested by the hotel, I went and tried the Vecchia Carbonera for dinner. Had some delicious local plates, all at very good prices (especially if you compare to other northern italian cities). Enjoyed everything I ate, and they even kindly saved me from the storm afterwards. Went back for lunch the following day, and again ate very well. Look forward to heading back when next in town.

The atmosphere of this restaurant is extraordinary and magical. The gentle roar of a waterfall ( visible by a large window ) accompanies the excellent and well presented dishes. The food is really good and the staff is very professional and kind. The dining rooms are set in an old building thanks to a superfine restoration that mixes the ancient stone building tradition and the modern use of steel and glass. Excellent quality - price ratio. Highly recommended!

We stopped in for lunch during the week. We were able to sit down at the last available table. All the other tables were occupied by local business people out to lunch. Even though the waitresses didnât really speak any English, we were able to communicate with the help of google translate. They had a fixed menu for lunch where you can mix and match first and second courses plus dessert and coffee. It was a nice, relaxing lunch with no toursists in sight.

Il passatore is one of the few restaurants in Sondrio which we found open in the evening. I had dinner with someone who is allergic to gluten. This wasn't a problem - we were just told we'd wait for some time because they had to change the water used for boiling. This meant that:1- they knew what an allergy is and what to do, even to avoid cross-contamination - professional.2- they were ready to run the "extra mile" for this - customer-oriented.3- they did it without fuss - gentle.Believe me: none of these three can be taken for granted. We had an excellent risotto with cheese, and I also had a delicious home-made chocolate dessert. The menu is quite short, but I found dishes for all tastes - and there is pizza too!Service was courteous, polite and with a smile. The person who was with me felt at ease, despite the allergy - again, something which, alas, doesn't happen all too often. The ambiance wasn't anything special - but the food was!So, yes, I can really recommend this restaurant!

You mush try the surprise menu, as many others restaurants in Valtellina should do : a tasting menu with small portions ! Excellent wine list, amazing desserts... Friendly service although should improve as the type or restaurant you expect to get a super professional service but you don't (wine was too hot when arrived, not served as it should, etc.)
