We have been in Saltys, Sidney once. We expected good things from it, as it is a franchise owned by British people and my husband and I as Brits know a bit about fish and chips. Our meal was below average. The chips were probably from lunchtime as they were dry and not very nice. The fish was not particularly nice either. We have another place in Sidney that we often go to for fish and chips and we will stick to that in future, I think.

Since 1990, the Rumrunner Pub & Restaurant has served delicious seafood and West Coast cuisine in a spectacular setting along the Sidney waterfront at picturesque Port Sidney Marina. Patrons enjoy a warm ambience, great food, and unforgettable views of th
This is a very friendly and popular pub and restaurant on Sidneyâs waterfront. Patio dining provides views of the marina next door and of the ocean and little islands beyond. An excellent spot to watch the sun go down over the Haro Strait in the Pacific. The food is good and thereâs a varied menu with lunch/dinner specials. I recommend the fish and chips, the nachos and also the halibut on a cedar plank with strawberry salsa. Service is friendly. I come over from the UK and visit my family in Sidney every year and I visit the Rumrunner several times on my visit too!

We have been going to this restaurant since the new owners took over and thought that Tony and Norman were doing a good job with fresh tasty batter, good fish and fine chips. We usually go about once or twice a month.Over time, especially thru this last year, we saw them less and less, saw new cooks more and more and the quality started to suffer. Yesterday was the first time we'd been there in about two months and the entire meal was very poor: tea was not hot, chips were soggy, fish pieces were small and the batter not crispy. What a shame, it'll be a long time till we go again.mjlDear MjlThank you so much for taking the time to send us a review. We always appreciated Good or Bad. We use this formation to make sure that our product and service always remains at the highest standards. Unfortunately Tony and I are not able to work 16hours a day, 7 days a week, and thus need to employ staff. As you know staff on the Island is very limited and thus we have to do additional training to ensure the standards the both of us have set are maintained. It would be greatly appreciated if you could email the Date and time you were with us, and any additional information that will assist us in specific areas of training.Regards Normanemail - [email protected]

We walked in tonight and were told weâd have to finish our meal in an hour or so, since someone else had reserved the table. No problem, we said, not anticipating it would take 50 minutes to get our food. The waiterâs explanation: âWe have a very small kitchen.â As a non-drinker Iâm attuned to the âstallâ strategy that places like this use to sell more drinks, but not accustomed to the long delay for them to bring my wife the Coke she requested after she finished her wine. The food was alright, but not good enough to put up with any of this. Hi TonyTonto,I was so sad to read your review this morning. This is not the type of experience that we are striving for at the restaurant and we are so sorry we didn't meet your expectations. I'm glad we could accommodate you and your wife and that you were offered a table, although it was reserved for someone else. Usually an hour is enough time to get in and out and enjoy a good meal. Unfortunately though, sometimes we do get very busy, very quickly, and your waiter was right in that our kitchen is very small. Because of the small space, we are forced to operate with a skeleton staff. We do our best in the busy times, but every so often, there may be a wait on food. No "stall" strategy....honest! Just a general struggle to feed the masses as most restaurants will occasionally experience. So sorry to make you surly and hope you can understand!

We stopped by for lunch based on TA reviews when visiting the area. It was quite hot sitting outside in the sun but hotter inside. We received our food but had to wait about 5 minutes and two servers before we were able to get cutlery and napkins. That made it kind of hard to eat when the food arrived. It was a surprise that a refill on iced tea was an additional charge-a quite unusual. I would look elsewhere for a meal.

Ultra-fresh seafood, the finest meats and locally sourced dairy and produce combine to create mouth-watering seasonal specialties. Add sweeping views and fresh sea air and we've got all your senses covered. From our famous Haro's burger and Signature shar
This restaurant is in the Pier Hotel. The restaurant is on the waterfront . My wife and I ordered dinner. We shared a lettuce wrap which had a delicious sauce. I ordered lamb sirloin with a sauce I didnât recognize. Unfortunately the sauce was pretty bland and I asked for mint sauce or jelly. The waitress and maître d consulted with the chef and he would not or could not give me mint sauce/ jelly. I had to settle for ketchup with my lamb!! My wife ordered halibut and fries. The order came with a small dried-out piece of halibut and a huge plate of fries. With one wine and one beer the bill was $120 . I cannot recommend this restaurant. The kitchen is dysfunctional!Dear Sir:I must respond to your review, and point out some inaccuracies. Our lamb sirloin entrée is served, as described on our menu, in the following way:Lamb Sirloinpan seared lamb sirloin, smoked fingerling potatoes, seasonal vegetables, olive jusWe don't carry mint jelly, and your server advised you of this. The Restaurant Manager you later spoke to also advised the same, but did acknowledge that he would see to it that we had some on hand going forward. When your server inquired about the rest of the meal you commented 'delicious'. You made a point of telling both the server and the Restaurant Manager that you worked for TripAdvisor when told there was no mint jelly in house - no veil on this threat. The Restaurant Manager discounted your bill by 50% - no mention of this in your review which is simply lying by omission. We take guest feedback very seriously, but half-truth and inaccuracies like this are hard to digest. Pun intended.Natalie

The Pier Bistro in Sidney B.C. is located literally right on the Beacon Pier itself. We offer a casual waterfront dining experience with panoramic ocean views of the Gulf Islands. We serve unique and tasty entrees like Award Winning Seafood Chowder, Crab
This location has a great potential to be a tourist trap, right at the end of the pier at the end of Beacon Avenue. While we have talked to friends that say they really liked their meal here, ours was disappointing. The menu says that fish and chips is their specialty. And the prices reflect it, $20 for two pieces of cod (4 ounces, which is apparently larger than the standard 3 ounces elsewhere) and $30 for two pieces of Halibut. I asked for mine extra crispy. Once again, I have come upon a restaurant that doesnât know the very basic technique for making fried things crisp. Very simply, you fry them twice. After the first round, let them sit, preferably in the refrigerator, for ten minutes or so. Then put them in hot oil (375 degrees) for the second fry. They come out fluffy inside and crispy on the outside. Not so here. I picked up a piece of cod in my fingers and the oil ran out of it in a stream. It was slightly darker, because to make it crisp they had left it in a little longer. That doesnât do it. Same with the fries. Not very crispy. The meal was expensive and very very ordinary. The carrot cake looked good, but we didnât try that.

Contemporary casual dining with Marina views and amazing sunsets. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
After getting off the ferry boat from Vancouver, we decided to have lunch at this charming cafe at the marina in Sidney, just a short drive from the ferry terminal. The patio is somewhat small and no tables were available there, so they seated us inside. There was still a lot of light and nice marina views from the oversized windows. We had the blue crab sandwich--delicious! One oddity: we ordered ice tea and we were brought very sweet tea. I've had this happen (before I learned to ask) in the Southern U.S. but no where else. Everywhere else, you normally get unsweetened ice tea, sometimes served along with sugar packets. When we told the waitress that we did not favor sweetened ice tea, she acted like we should have specified or inquired. I wonder whether this is a Canadian or British Columbian thing? In any event, that was the only thing that marred an otherwise very nice lunch.

Outstanding ambience, exceptional food, exceptional service... the perfect place to gather with family and friends. Appetizers and bubbly in the garden and wandering the waterfront, then inside for a food experience that will be long remembered. Thank you Pierre and Bev for continuing your long and beautiful tradition of creating food that leaves us longing to return. Your team of servers, particularly Ben, put people at ease and make them feel special. Thank you so much!!
