we were guests of friends in Reggio Emilia. We are Indians, we broke advise the owner and he suggested a tasting menu of seafood, appetizers acquired with refinement and excellent flavors of the sea. pasta dishes: rice with fresh fish, excellent and quality. The desserts were really good. Throughout the meal was accompanied by a wine called "Franciacorta" wonderful. The bill was balanced with the Quality, recommended for my Indian friends.

Mozzarella vecchia ?

In a contemporary design space, at the foot of Scandiano hills in Reggio Emilia, the 1495 Garden Restaurant gives birth to a creative cuisine, defining its stylistic code through the astonishment and the glorification of raw materials, in total respect of

This restaurant, located inside the Arceto Castle, should be rated 3 Star Michelin and is definitely worth a visit when visiting the Emilia-Romagna region. The menu changes with the seasons, so you will find a wide variety of dishes from duck (anatra) and quail (guaglia) to Agnus beef, veal (vitello) and fish, such as tuna and sea bass (branzino), as well as traditional dishes such as risotto and pasta. The appetizers are creative and varied, and quite large (recommend to share one), priced from â¬12 to â¬16. I had the Soufflè di Parmigiano Reggiano, (baked egg and parmigiano cheese, pear, honey, and Balsamic). The meal starts with fine baked breads and gnocco, and a small tasting of the house special soup. Main courses are very reasonably priced, from â¬14 to â¬20. The wine list is quite substantial, specializing in small wineries throughout Italy. We ordered an exquisite 2007 Amarone, one of their younger wines on their list. For 45⬠you wouldn't find that in the USA for under $200 (if you could find it). The service is exceptional, very kind and attentive wait staff. The dining area is quaint and romantic, although I would suggest lowering the lights (emphasized lighting tends to be common throughout restaurants in Italy). And there is nice smooth jazz music playing in the background. In summer there is outdoor seating. Dessert, I can't comment on, because we were too full to order it. However, the waiter brought us a plate of small varied desserts, (gratis), and it was just the right amount to end a perfect meal. In total, the bill was under â¬100 for 2 appetizers, 2 main courses, a fine bottle of wine, bottled water, and service charge. Quite reasonable!

This is one of those gems that you go to Italy to stumble across. One glance at the thoughtfully balanced menu outside the Antiche Mura in Scandiano, RE, was enough to entice us inside. Once there, we were greeted by the warmly welcoming hostess and the chef. There was an air of relaxed professionalism about the place that was instantly reassuring. The rooms were charming and spotlessly clean. The menu was evenly divided into fish and meat, from antipasti to secondi, and we could happily have eaten all of it. In the end, my companion and I essayed an even mix of dishes, including a vegetarian starter. This was a âflanâ of Gorgonzola (a sort of dense, savoury mousse), which was well seasoned and with a correct intensity of flavour; neither too intrusive nor too bland. The other starter was a chopped (rather than sliced) carpaccio of tuna with strawberries. Sounded odd, worked very well. Our pasta dishes were glorious: one featuring barely seared chunks of the freshest tuna tossed in a cashew and lemon pesto; the other, shavings of dried codâs roe and top-quality olive oil. The pasta itself was unmistakably freshly made and perfectly cooked â not 15 seconds too much or too little.Main courses were a trio of foie gras and an excellent boned rabbit wrapped in prosciutto, cooked in white wine and onions and simply served on finely sliced sharp apple with borlotti beans. Wonderful. The liver arrived as three generous slices presented on dry toasts of coarse white bread, again cooked with terrific accuracy: gently pink in the middle and delicate enough to have been eaten with a teaspoon. The âtrioâ bit of the dish referred to three accompanying garnishes: a prune jam, a spicy chilli jam, and some sweet glazed onions with accompanying mixed salts. A simply conceived, deliciously balanced arrangement. To conclude, we enjoyed a local variant of tarte tatin and some fine regional cheese. We drank a very good prosecco with the early part of dinner and then, guided by the chef, a robust but elegant Chianti from the short and carefully chosen wine list.Everything was homemade, including the ice cream, four different breads and the various pastries. Service was relaxed but appropriately attentive. The furnishings comfortable, the design discreet and stylish. Most of all, this was cooking of the highest order in terms of technical accuracy, quality of ingredients, design of the dishes and balance of flavours. No distracting saucing or silly mannerisms. It takes great skill, a fine palate and fabulous ingredients to be able to cook this simply. Brilliant and a total treat. The bill, for four courses, wines, water, breads, coffee and a (homemade) digestif of wild berries? If I told you, you wouldnât believe me. A good 50% less than our lowest pre-bill estimate. Even bearing in mind that dining in Italy is always proportionately less expensive than in the UK, and small-town regional Italy even more so, this represented extraordinary value. The best food I have enjoyed in many years, at any price.
