Although it was not formally incorporated until February 28, 1907, the North Carolina community that became the city of Rocky Mount dates from the beginning of the 19th century. The first post office in the area opened in 1816. The city's population was 57,685 at the 2010 census, with an estimated population of 56,325 in 2014. Rocky Mount has received the All-America City Award from the National Civic League two times, in 1969 and 1999.

This restaurant is clean, large, and friendly. It's fine for a family with kids. The servings are generous and the fish is fresh. We ordered two house specials--stuffed flounder and crab cakes. I ordered the mixed vegetables as a side. For diners on a bland diet, the fish would be excellent. We, however, like spice (not necessarily hot) and were somewhat disappointed. The mixed vegetables seemed to be heated up from a can. Overcooked, for sure.The fried entrees we saw arriving at nearby tables looked super. If we return to the Mayflower, we'll be ordering fried seafood, despite the damage to our diets.The prices were very reasonable. The lemonade was standard restaurant fare. No beer or wine at all.

I'd never eaten at a Red Lobster before this week, but their TV ads for the Create Your Own Shrimp Trio brought me in twice! This visit we did take-out after ordering online. What we learned is that the internet ordering system doesn't give you the correct pick-up time - we should have called the restaurant to ask when our order would be ready, because we waited 10-15 minutes once we arrived at the time specified at the time of our order. The food was good, although we ordered our 2 salads with different toppings and they were prepared the same. The bartender who was in charge of getting our order for us was lovely and apologetic for something that was not in any way her fault, so we were pleased with the service on-site - just not with the pick-up time given by the website. We'd visited the other location for their lunch buffet, but never stopped at this one, which is closer to our home. One day we were in the parking lot shopping elsewhere, and the chicken smelled so good we had to try it. And it was every bit as good as it smelled - we've been back for it since. We weren't fans of the potatoes or the hushpuppies, though, so we've skipped them on subsequent visits.We'll be back for the chicken!Thank you for the great review. Our hushpuppies are award winning but we don't use onions in them so they are almost dessert like. The perfect end to a meal. Very happy we enticed you in. We also have order ahead at this location at gardnerfoods.com as well as delivery.

This is not a big restaurant, and I was glad that it isn't. It's like walking into someone's home and getting a great meal. They have a small buffet and everything is tasty. The service is friendly and very welcoming. They do have a menu to order from and I plan to go back. It is definitely a place I would recommend for people that want good food for a good price.
