Greek traditional tavern in Ancient Olympia
Good reviews, which we fully endorse. Those who were disappointed: it depends what you are looking for. This is a busy tourist town with much competition for your custom. But this little place is hidden away from the main street.Glad we went; we have marked it for what it is, in comparison. Not an "international food" place but proper Greek, trying hard. And great fish.Recommended.

We were on a cruiseship and our stop was in Katakolon. We decided to visit the local shops and went for a walk along the beach. Then we came across this restaurant (greeks seem to call it taverna) with lovely tables outside and with local people having lunch. This is ALWAYS a good sign. So we decided to sit down for our lunch. Very tasty Greek salad, Musaka and, pasta with shrimps. The portions were very very generous, we couldn't finish it all, the dish of pasta was so big that my teenagers shared one and very kindly the owner took the second one we ordered away and he did not charge us for it. Very friendly service, good food, reasonable price, beautiful views.

Festive flavors from Ilia land.Restaurant since 1983 and local products market. Traditional home made Greek food . Brunch .Lunch . Desserts .Coffee .Ice cream . Carefully selected high quality local products . From April until the end of October .
Simply splendid and astonishingly brilliant. This would be my description of this place if the review would be one sentence length maximum. However, I am lucky to tell you more about Filia.Location: this small and cozy family restaurant is located in the town of Katakolo. This town, from the first glance looks totally dead, but everything changes when cruise ship arrives to the port. Then all shops, cafes and all local business in general revives and shows totally different side of this town.Restaurant environment: this restaurant is 1/4 restaurant, 1/4 boutique, 1/4 some sort of art gallery and finally 1/4 shop of local authentic products. Under one roof you can find everything what you would need for a short stop at Katakolo. And even though, this place is mainly represented as a restaurant, all other 3 areas with paintings hanging on the wall or shelves with authentic Greek olive oil or wine from the local winery provide this place totally different experience. So instead of sitting and waiting for your food to come, you can walk and check, observe or buy the things you want. Food: Since we stayed for 2 weeks in Katakolo, this place was absolutely our favorite place to have lunch (breakfast and dinner we had at our hotel). As a couple we have tried probably almost like half of the menu and we haven't been disappointed at least once. Everything was so delicious and so local and so Greek. It's not like 3 stars Michelin restaurant where you would get a plate with precisely counted grams of some fancy ingredients looking like one of those modern paintings at the museum nowadays. No, this restaurant will provide you local, simple but aesthetically looking and unbelievably delicious food. Recommendations: try olives with herbs as a starter (those olives are not from this planet), main: local orzo pasta with shrimps and tomatoes sauce (this thing is simply divine and was our favorite). Service: we got lucky and most of the time we were served by the owner of that place. She is very warm and simple person to talk with about everything, from if my choice from menu is good till the elections in Greece and how this will change the future of Greeks. By the way, she is very honest, if your meal choice will be not the best one she will tell you and will wait till you come up with your second choice. :)) Some of the reviewers complained that service was average because "They had to wait a lot for the waiter to come", I would say that she does not disturb you to enjoy your meal and have relaxed non-rushing conversations by the glass of wine. And if you really need the waiter, you always can stand up and approach him/her. This is Greece, not USA, UK or France and etc where the waiters have to take care of every insignificant demand stated by the customers. This place is like your launch or dinner at your relative's (aunt, uncle or mom's) house. How often you demand for the things over there?Never. So, relax and enjoy good weather and slow pace of life in Greece. Best of luck in your future, if you will move this restaurant to another city, we will find you and we will order food there. I really hope to enjoy your orzo pasta one more time :)Dear Friends,I hope you are fine back to your basis !I canât describe how I feel about your comments. So proud ,so thankful, so happy ...Me and my team thank you very very much for coming back to our place again and again so many times during your stay here !We really appreciate the time you spend to score us and write a comment like this .We hope to see you again some day here or anywhere in the world !Miss you ...Kindest regards Hrisa

Greek food, mostly barbequed meat, Greek salad, cheese pie. Everything is cooked at the time you order by the owner. Some times and only if there are fresh, you can eat fish, fish soup or hunting! Always ask if there is anything special of the day!
Whilst staying in Katakolon we were invited to this taverna in the small village of Korakohori a couple of miles away inland from the sea. We were made to feel very welcome in what is a locals taverna. The menu was great and there were good choices available. After our meal we were all given plates of fresh fruit and some ouzo. This taverna is highly recommended and if you are in the area of Katakolon take a taxi up here for a few euros.

My partner and I spent 2 weeks in Pyrgos -Skafidia- (Olympian Village) in all inclusive, but we wanted also to taste the food in a local Greek restaurant.Just out of the Olympian village, on the left, there is a nice and good restaurant : Vythos. It is managed by a family: mother, father, daugheter and son.The cuisine is delicious ! They prepare very well both meat and fish and a lot of other dishes.Everything is made with care and it is very tasty! You can eat a lot of dishes (from starters to cake), and the price is not expensive: in average 23 ⬠per person included beverage (also very good wine!) and coffee. The family is very kind and show you also the fresh fish before cooking it.It is one of the best restaurant in Europe where we ate, and also where the owners are really special people careful to the the needs of their customers! We went there 5 times for dinner with friends during our stay in Pyrgos. We suggest you to try Vythos' food and to spend some words with the family that manage the restaurant. We want to thank them again and to tell them we always will remember in our life their good food, their kindness and their smiles !Ciao and big hug from Antonella and Maurizio (Italy).
