At last a fantastic all round restaurant in Costa Rica and after 5 days in Cahuita certainly the best weâve eaten in. The setting is amazing. A short walk out of town but literally just a few metres from the waves breaking on the shore which provided a lovely backdrop to our meal. The staff, including the chef, were all very personable and attentive. The service was slick and fast. Oh and the food ? Fabulous. 3 carnivores, one veggie and one vegan were all very happy with their fare . Thoroughly recommended. Closed Tuesdays . Booking advised.

Lovely ambience and good service, however, was I disappointed with my meal of sauteed curried vegetables. It had a bland, burnt and confusing flavour. Not really sure what was supposed to be going on with the flavours. My partner enjoyed his pasta, so maybe I just ordered the wrong meal. However, considering the high price of the meals I did expect better.

This is a special place - set back from the road on a lovely veranda. The owner is great and we had a really wonderful meal full of special touches, like him bringing out a bit of tortilla espanol and garbanzos while we waited. Overall it felt like a really special evening, a touch of Spain in Costa Rica. But we found some of the food a little lackluster. As vegetarians my husband and I didn't have loads of options for a main course, but decided to try to vegan paella. Though the presentation was nice and the texture perfect, it was bland and included no protein. Our kids (not vegetarian) had the tenderloin, which they loved, but the sides it came with were overcooked and strangely seasoned - they went uneaten. I'd definitely recommend the restaurant in any case...make a reservation or you're not likely to get a table!

Ate here one night, atmosphere and setting was great, along with the cocktails but food not so.Mahi-mahi overcooked and seafood pasta had both undercooked or dead mussels (all closed) and a very thin watery sauce.

Surprisingly high-quality cuisine. Fresh catch of the day fish and sea fruit. Each dish with its distinct flavor. Beautiful presentation. The staff is very attent and gives lengthy explanations on ingredients of each suggestion. We were surprised to find such high quality gastronomy at such a relaxed and easy going place. If and when we are back we shall certainly return here.

Traveling for almost a month in Costa Rica, by FAR(!) the best place we ate in.The atmosphere is amazing, our host was so helpfull and kind, the food was fabulous, the drinks were excellent, and the service felt so professional. We had guys coming in every few minutes to wipe the water coming out of the drinks on the table (not in a wierd way), always checking in with us, got a small treat from the kitchen as a desert since we were really full, and such a smiling host.. She made our night. The prices are reasonable for the food and overall value. this should be your first restaurant choice in the area.

Doesn't look like much, but we were happy with the food. The water based smoothies (they have milk based as well) are not watered down, and in particular the passion fruit smoothie was heavenly.

Domingo makes it very difficult for anyone to fault with the experience of eating at Villa Amapola. He is that carefully attentive since you make your reservation before heading there.Do not forget to ring him and let him know you are coming. Not only as an act of courtesy but also so he can best prepare to make your visit with him a memorable one.I had not been in the Caribbean South for over ten years. I resorted to TripAdvisor and found Villa Amapola as an alternative for my keenly gourmet family. Got high praises from my 8 year old onwards.Domingo and I spoke on the phone two days before the date and agreed on paella, beef tenderloin for the boys and as appetizers shrimp and - I had to insist - tortilla española. Everything was to die for. Truly.Drinks were homemade iced tea (a home run with all under 18) and tinto de verano (a home run for us all over 18). We live in Costa Rica, if making it over to Villa Amapola was less than a 5.5 hour burden I would be back each weekend. No doubts, this is EXCELLENCE correctly spelled and don't be afraid you will ultimately mortgage your house. Price was correct for Costa Rica standards (less than San Jose for sure).Highly recommend.Domingo was that host you do not wish to leave.

Soda/Restaurant in the heart of Cocles. Lunch and Diner available all the week . Special day plate depending what kind of fish is catching in the morning. Only fresh food cooking at moment. Pizza at night. May and June open only for dinner
We visited this restaurant after seeing reviews online, however it was a disappointing visit. The complimentary soup was tasty, along with the bruschetta which was very nice.I had the bolognase pasta which was bland and didn't have much flavour. My boyfriend had the fish which was drenched in coconut sauce and overpowering any other flavour.Service was good and very attentive.

We offer local and international cuisine, specializing in Seafood and Caribbean food. Our menu also includes pastas, vegetarian and typical Costa Rican food.
We chose here based on trip advisor reviews and weren't disappointed, we've come on to write the review straightaway we were so impressed. Food was really delicious, especially the chicken and rice and beans- very generous portions. I had a mojito and it was probably the best I've ever had! I watched the gentleman take a lot of time and effort making it. And that sums up the service, they really cared about us having a great time. They even came over with bruschetta on the house as well as a tasty mango rum shot thing at the end! We're travelling so trying to save money so dont aim to eat out every night.. but may have to make an exception for this place! (That said the price was very very very reasonable for what you get!)
