Like the other tavernas along the beach front, this place offers great food and on some nights has specials. Try the sea food! Service is excellent and the staff are very attentive.

Taverna by the sea with fantastic, fresh food, and a spectacular view. Family owned taverna, one of the first establishments in Plakias.
The taverna is nicely located by the sea. I love seafood, and decided to try their fresh fish. It was unbelievably good. Grilled to perfection, not dry at all, and tasted amazing. I ordered the simple Greek salad as a starter, and cannot believe how fresh and delicious the vegetables and the feta cheese were. The olive oil is amazing too, which made the salad even better. I have traveled around Greece a bit, as well as Crete. This is by far the best fish I've had. I would definitely go back, and will be sending all my friends there if they visit Plakias. The restaurant tends to get busy, and I can see why. With the bill I received a piece of home made cake.

Our favorite restaurant in Plakias!Lovingly run by Kostas. In addition, Kirstin looks after the welfare of the guests. In this restaurant there are excellent appetizers and salads. Wonderful fish dishes and the very best curry mussels on this fantastic island. The food is enjoyed there with a view of the magnificent sea, protected by the sleeping dragons of Plakias!Really highly recommended

It is situated on the main street in Plakias, near to the old harbour and next to Mouses Taverna. Gorgona means "Mermaid" in Greek.
Plakias does not do fine dining, but prices reflect that. Gorgona with sea views and a personable waiter oozing charm is one of better tavernas. Taramasalata good quality. Stifado pleasant but had better. Probably best value is mixed fish - sea bass, red snapper and sardines with excellent chips. With efficient service is always busier than tavernas either side. Not really 5* food, but overall merits that rating for Plakias.

Throubi is a warm and genuine traditional Cretan taverna with local organic and homemade food, cooked with love by Manolis, George and Mama Helen
Situated on the side street just up from the port, close to the organic shop is OpouμÏι...We got a table outside, under the covered area, and ordered 1 sea bass and 1 pork Souflaki, plus a half litre of the house white and a beer. The meal arrived promptly and the sea bass looked good, nicely presented and cooked well. It lived up to expectations, however the pork was a real disappointment, with 3 small skewers of meat (they looked like frozen party fare). Which were just awful? They rated the worst example of Souflaki in Plakias, having no flavour at all.We quickly left with one of us very disappointed and the other content. Both decided that there were better places to eat and would not be back to OpouμÏι.

Our table overlooking the sea was an ideal setting and both the efficient service and good food really complemented the location. We ordered a Greek salad and for the main course, the Honeyed Salmon and a Mixed Grill. The salad was tasty and plentiful. Broccoli, Green beans and Rice were served with the Honeyed Salmon (nice to get vegetables) The mixed grill plate consisted of pork, beef, and chicken skewers, with sausage, lamb burger and a lamb cutlet and chips. All very good. Accompanied by a ½ litre of wine and a beer, our bill was â¬41.9, which came accompanied by Raki and a Panna cotta type dessert. Very good value for nice food and definitely worth a return visit.

Friendly service and good food. The best pies and zucchini balls we had in Crete (we had just a bunch of starters). Good quiet location and a nice sea view. Seems to be a place for many locals, most people arrived after 9 pm.

It's a very known establishment in Plakias and we hoped to enjoy the traditional Cretan food . Well it feels like a touristic all around restaurant - nothing was bad , everything was "almost" . We had a very bland Pizza with vegetables , ordinary Pasta Bolognese - and the flag dish - Kri kri goat served in a clay pot slow cooked in the oven - disappointing . few pieces of meat , lots of too soft aubergine all wrapped in vine leaves . It must have been be better once , I believe , but I guess generations of British tourists made it taste like this . Service was kind and attentive .
