Been there twice, the first time service was not too good but it got better the second time. Fried oysters were a little too salty. Steamed seafood was really good and hush puppies were good as well. I like that is a family owned restaurant. Just hope their service keeps improving.

This was our first visit since the restaurant changed from The Flying Fish Cafe and we were not disappointed. They have changed the layout on the deck to include a bar which is great. We stopped around lunchtime for an appetizer and a couple of beers and then decided after seeing the menu we would come back later in the week for dinner. Sitting on the deck is very comfortable between the ocean breeze and the fans mounted on the walls to keep the air moving. Our food, which was fish tacos, shrimp nachos and loaded fries, was delicious. Note: the shrimp nachos are an appetizer but will easily feed 2 people. We will definitely return to KoKo Cabana on our next trip to OKI.

We enjoyed our time here. Very friendly and engaging staff. Nice beer selection. The oscar with crab meat, mashed potatoes and asparagus was a really nice meal. My wife's corvina was a first for her and she loved it. Broccoli fresh and done right for sure. Fresh ingredients make great meals! Thank you Kelly, Lexi and staff for a fun visit with great tasting food.

This restaurant has always served average meals, nothing special just OK. But today's lunch was not OK and I should have known when it was 1/2 empty at lunch time "Something was Wrong". The specials, spaghetti and fried shrimp were just awful and my cheeseburger was barely warm. All in all, most of the food went back to the kitchen and the waitress didn't seem very interested as to why no one ate their meal ??? Can't understand all the positive reviews???

Atmosphere is awesome and service is always amazing. Love the entire menu and everyone is always so happy. Always hear lots of laughter and great beer selection. I love spending Sundays watching football and eating hot wings. Just a great place to go too! Also opened year around and great prices. Never disappointed. Great job Ed. High five to entire staff.

We've been here twice now with another couple from our neighborhood. While his wife swears by the tuna appetizer, my wife, a tuna aficionado, isn't as impressed. It's more of a shack with some outdoor seating. Reminds me of clam shacks in the northeast. Nothing fancy at all. Service can be mixed. Our best experience was sitting at the bar, though it makes it difficult to speak to your friends. The seats near the door at the bar are also directly under the air conditioning, so my wife was freezing. Some of the meals are expensive for what you get, others are priced well. It's the only place to eat on the west end of Oak Island. The place is always crowded, so expect to wait. Frankly it's not worth the wait.

Small family owned business dedicated to serving fresh mouthwatering dishes using local resources. Daily specials including locally caught fish! Limited seating, not designed for parties of 8 or more people during busy summer season.
Twain's is nothing fancy to look at either outside or inside, but the food is great.Restaurant specializes in fresh, locally caught seafood and WONDERFUL desserts, including gluten-free options.I had a pound of peel and eat shrimp with a trip to the salad bar. The shrimp was seasoned with Old Bay and served with fresh lemon, garlic butter, and cocktail sauce - large, sweet, delishous The salad bar consisted of the usual, i.e., mixed greens, lettuce, tomato, purple onion, cucumber, carrots, black olives, eggs, pasta salad, cottage cheese, beets, assorted dressing, and a few other things I know I forgot, good, fresh ingredients. My friend ordered the grilled scallops and said they were wonderful. The looked beautiful. Her meal came with homemade chips and coleslaw. She opted out of fries and hushpuppies. Our server kept our glasses full while we waited for our made-to-order meals to be prepared.Neither of us had room for dessert, but we took time to admire the mudslide, hummingbird, and coconut cakes, brownies, key lime pies, and other goodies in the bakery cases. We noticed locals coming in and leaving with boxes of these treats!I highly recommend this place for food and service.Alcohol is not served at this location.

Fine dining ocean front restaurant featuring steaks and seafood.
We had dinner at the Island Way while visiting friends in NC. A party of 4, 3 of us had the Grouper Neptune while the other person at our table had the stuffed flounder. I can't say enough about how good the Grouper Neptune was. Perfect. The 3 of us raved about the dinner. The patron that selected the stuffed flounder also said it was very good.We selected a bottle of house red and white wine to enjoy with the dinner. Very good. Pricing was very reasonable. During the off season, the restaurant caters to the "locals" with reduced prices. Smart idea. Service was very attentive without being burdensome. All in all, an enjoyable dining experience.

Sorry to say our experience was much different then the majority of reviews. Four of us went in for a late lunch. Service was friendly. two at our table ordered the scallops and found them on the salty side. Shrimp Bowl was good. Biggest problem came with the shaved steak sandwich. Asked for it without cheese and horseradish sauce (fairly easy, right, meat and grilled onions). First came out with both cheese and sauce and was sent back. Came back second time drowning in the sauce and no onions. the waitress says, "Oh, I thought you said no onions" and the four of us were saying no I clearly stated what I wanted. At this point every one else had finished there meals, so I gave up and left hungry and very disappointed. We will not be back.

We heard some good things about Turtle Island so we decided to give it a try on our last night in town. Unfortunately we had to wait 1 1/2 hours with a 2 year old as couples and large groups continued to be seated before us. I'm not sure how Management organizes their seating priorities but they need to rethink it and actually put the customers needs first. We checked in as soon as we arrived and watched as other parties were seated ahead of us. If there is a backlog of people who called in to reserve a seat the Management staff should be able to tell the other customers who are patiently waiting that there is no way they will be seated. We were told several times after our 45 minute wait that we were next. After 90 minutes we gave up. No second chances will be given here.
