The name means "east", or literally "the place where the sun rises" in the Swazi, Xhosa, Ndebele and Zulu languages. Mpumalanga lies in eastern South Africa, bordering Swaziland and Mozambique. We recently stayed at Buckler's near Crocodile Bridge and had a good dinner at the Tamberina restaurant in Komatipoort. Seating area is nicely decorated with a Mozambique-Portuguese feel. Menu is a mix of traditional Portuguese with a South African touch. Service was friendly and helpful, a bit slow at times due to the restaurant being rather full at the time of our meal. During our meal we had the King Klip with lemon butter sauce that was fine. Fillet was fresh and grilled nicely. More enjoyed were the signature prawns. Unfortunately, they were out of both King and Queen sized prawns so we tried their 12 standard prawns R240. These were pretty good, nicely boiled with slightly spicy flavour. Served with rice and a bit of salad, this was a nice seafood order. Overall, not the best seafood meal we've ever had but pretty good for a small town in east South Africa. We'd consider eating here again if we find ourselves in Komatipoort.

I believe there are two outlets of this restaurant, with one in Riverside Mall, and the one I was at in I'langa Mall. The URL seems to be for the Riverside one, but at least the phone number will help.
One of the consistently best places to eat in the area, the Mediterranean offers good value dining.Hosts Costa and Nico work very hard to make all the patrons feel warmly welcomed but the star is long time waitress Gladys. The menu is rather like a Greek meze - extensive and over-complicated but you cant go wrong with most of the fish and seafood.Rather noisy due to its decor and location within a mall.

What a breath of fresh air to find some fresh really delicious food in White River. My partner and I have been underwhelmed by the restaurant food in the area ( have cooked nicer meals myself in self catering) but Ocean Basket restored our faith with an amazing mixed platter of prawns, mussels, squid and hake with a heavenly lemon butter sauce. Graskop take note, this is the flavour and standard you should be serving. Great food, lovely staff. Hi there 735Leeannr,Thank you for this fin-tastic review! We always enjoy the sushi at Kombu, which has a somewhat different take on the usual offerings and is always beautifully fresh. Would recommend the South African style varieties, featuring biltong and crispy chicken! Very friendly and attentive staff, but be prepared to wait a little while, as fresh doesn't come fast.
