Middelburg is flush with good restaurants and bars - but on a cool, sunny afternoon, after a walking tour of the city, we chose to relax inside this inviting eatery on the Old Town Square. Their menu looked appetizing, the prices were competitive. Though there were a few outside tables, the wind convinced us to seek a table within along the front window. Mussels were still in season, so we requested one kettle to share, it came with fries so we added two local Beers to wash the meal down. The mussels and fries were delivered to our table pipping hot. We began dividing the bounty with our hands and a large serving spoon. One order was more than sufficient. After a relaxing meal and conversation we felt renewed. Sated, we sipped the last of our beer and asked for the check. Huifkar was a brilliant way to cap our visit to Middelburg.

We stopped in for lunch over Easter weekend and my husband and I both came away very happy with De Gouden Bock. Its location is just outside the the crowded city center (right off the main parking area, actually), so the crowds are a little smaller and it is much quieter. We were concerned that without reservations on such a busy weekend that we might have a hard time finding a table, but this was not the case. Our food was very good, fresh and appealing, and our capuccinos were perfect. Our waitress was friendly, speaking excellent English and making good meal suggestions for us. Prices were reasonable. The atmosphere is very light and and airy feeling -- it's overall very charming and pleasant. I would definitely return!

My Son recently relocated to Middelburg, and we discovered this gem of a restaurant just a couple of minutes walk from his house.Although the Menu seems limited, the food ,ambience & service are really first class -the canal/port views are just superb. Coupled with extremely friendly and professional attention to every detail (including quality tableware & linen table napkins!).We were lucky to experience a lovely terrace sunset.

Welcome to restaurant âZeeuwse strekenâ! We prepare the dishes with fresh products from the region. Seafood is our specialty, but we also have delicious local meat and vegetarian dishes. Our mission is to provide guests with a fantastic experience in an a
For the missing âgoodâ categorie, Iâll let it swing towards very good. The restaurant offers a nice atmosphere and very friendly service. Service was prompt and food was served relatively quickly. The mussels in oriental style are a nice variation. The menu offers grilled lobster. What is served is half a lobster so no telling how fresh it actually was. It was served a bit on the dry side. Fair selection of wines and overall fair price quality ratio. Will return to try some other dishes

We had a light supper at Vriendschap on a cold dark night. We ordered shrimp bisque and a Tom Ka with bean sprouts and other veggies in it. Both soups were delicious. My bottle of Zeeland apple juice was so unusually delicious that my wife had to order a bottle for herself. The lust for new flavors got the better of us, and we ordered some shrimp kroket which were also delicious. The wait staff were helpful and polite, and food arrived reasonably promptly. One delightfully charming staff member chatted with us when we found out she was from Indonesia. Vriendschap was the most memorable restaurant that we visited in Middelburg, and we recommend it very highly for atmosphere, friendliness, taste, and value.Hello dear Staidthere,Thank you so much for your nice review. It makes us shine! We hope to see you again,Kind regards and all the best,Connie

For diners who may be skeptical about eating in their hotel and who may want to explore Middelburg, this restaurant has excellent dishes served in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere by charming staff and with a very extensive wine list. What more would you want after an arduous day on the beach. If you book ahead, try to get one of the booths by the window. Our stay included Saturday, when they have a buffet, yet we still chose to eat from the main menu as we preferred the choice of dishes and we were very satisfied. Prices are comparable to good restaurants in town too - no price hikes for captive audience.

At Restaurant Basalt we serve what comes from the ocean that morning. With seasonal products we create beautiful dishes. We mainly serve fish dishes but also for meat lovers there is always a fine choice as well. With 38 seats we are a warm and cosy resta
We chose this restaurant as we found the menu quite interesting. I had a seabass as it s one of my favourites.. The fish arrived to my table looking really ok on the plate but when I touched it with that fork and knife delicately, its consistency was a bit strange ( gummy like) then I opened the fish and... red blood burst out of it. I, of course, called the waitress and said the fish is undercooked, she then disappeared for a few mins, then came back saying :" this fish has to be like this because otherwise it will be too dry" A WHAT??! A joke to say the least!! I think. Well, I didn't order sushi and I want my fish COOKED as it should be and do not want to see any blood or eat it semi raw. I sent it back to the kitchen, they cooked it a bit longer. The fish then came back to my table cooked and then it was as it should be. My friend ordered a tuna steak which we could actually say it was rather a mini - tuna steak as the portion was really small. The vegetables were ok as well as the wine and the service but ... that bloody fish incident was rather disconcerting and the silly excuses of the waitress that the seabags has to be semi raw - quite amusing .. Overall experience - disappointing and quite ridiculous.Never ever said that we serve the seaBASS raw ofcourse we donât. I said that it was not raw and if we steam it some more it could be a bit dry (the fish litteraly fell of its bone already) red blood bursting out of the seaBASS come on. You are welcome to write a bad review but at least be honest.

Not perfect but still wonderful! We had a very nice evening at this gourmet restaurant. The service was nice, the lady tried real hard to explain things in english and to make our dinner as perfect as possible.I love the ambiance. And I adore the dessert. Ok, Im pretty impressed for the things we got and the money we spent on it.The location isnt as center as I expected but still acceptable as its still withing walking distance from the towncenter.

The restaurant is located in the historic building at the edge of the old town of Middelburg. Inside: a cozy Dutch interior and fireworks of culinary masterpieces. We had a sea inspired festival of dishes concluded with the lemon and lime desert. Every bit of dish was composed from a delightful combination of tastes and visual experiences. My favourite was a sashimi inspired raw fish in the green cloud with crunchy finish of quinoa. Stylish service and home like ambience. A diamond on the firmament of European cuisine. In my opinion at least.....

Ons restaurant ligt in het bruisende hart van de Middelburgse binnenstad en behoort tot een select gezelschap van rijksmonumenten. Wij werken met uiterst verse producten die veelal van biologische afkomst zijn. Wij brengen u mooie verrassende gerechten me
Exploring Middelburg we decided to follow TA recommendations and try the Gespleten Arent. We were not disappointed. We arrived about 10 min before their official opening time (6:00pm) but were welcomed inside anyway. We started with a cava/ginger beer aperitif (I was sold at "ginger beer") along with several amuses. We decided on the 3 course menu salomon/beef/lychee. We also asked if, instead of the full wine arrangement, we could have half glasses of the appropriate wine with the first & second courses - again no problem. The food was great. Interesting twists on the base ingredient of each course - tasty, very well made and presented while not pretentious. Portion size appropriate for fine dining.Service was attentive, friendly but unobtrusive. Professional. All in all a memorable meal for 2 for EUR 55 pp incl drinks and a tip.Good value we thought. We'll be back.
