But vacationers have been braving the ferry for years, and this tiny island off Cape Cod remains one of the most popular and picturesque destinations in New England. Among the island's towns, you're sure to find the Vineyard that's right for you. With stately Greek revival houses dating back to the whaling era of the early 19th century, Edgartown is a seaside village of boutique shopping and pristine harbor views. For more of a "beach town" feel, Oak Bluffs has the Flying Horses carousel, an arcade and an easy walk to the beach, plus the history and charm of the "gingerbread" houses in the Methodist campgrounds. Vineyard Haven offers visitors a blend of both. For a real retreat, Chilmark/Aquinnah is the place to get away from it all. In the off-season, the island is quieter and far less crowded, but the shore is always beautiful. Whenever you visit, leave your car behind! Cabs are plentiful and greet the incoming ferries to help you reach your destination. Most visitors prefer to explore the island on a bicycle, scooter or tourist-friendly public buses.

The food was very good, but the table service was very average. The hostess greeted me with âAre you eating or just here for drinks? I canât seat you at a table if you are just drinking.â That was her âHello, how are you? Will you be having lunch with us today?â LoL. She sat us facing straight into the afternoon sun with no umbrella or cover, so the view was wasted because it was so intense we actually had to turn around and face her at the hostess stand.

BEST CHOWDER IN NEW ENGLAND FROM YANKEE MAGAZINE, BEST CHOWDER 2015 from CAPE & ISLANDS MAGAZINE, MV MAGAZINE and winner of the 2015 MV CHOWDER CONTEST!! - Copper and mahogany grace our nautically chic dining room creating a casual-fine dining atmosphere.
The chowder was perfectly madeâright amount of salt, perfectly cut potatoes, perfectly diced clams. My husband had the lobster roll and I had shrimp cocktail. Not the best shrimp cocktail Iâve ever had, but not bad. The lobster roll was delicious. They have a really good bar with great drink selectionsâwines, beers, vodkas, and tequilas. Checked out the loft upstairs and it was hopping. We left to get Backdoor Donuts, but would return to play darts, pool, etc. Great place.

We appreciated dining outdoors at 19 Raw Oyster Bar. The service was exceptional...very accommodating, helpful and friendly. We shared an assortment of oysters prior to dinner. It was a nice presentation. Our meals were very good as well. We had completed our dining experience and we were checking out...when we noticed some desserts "wandering" past our table. A lemon cake looked incredible. So, we opened up a new check and ordered dessert....a smart move! We also ordered a limoncello which "19 Raw" doesn't offer but they managed to pull it off...going above and bejond. The evening was an exceptional experience. Enjoy!

The pizza was excellent. I was surprised at how good it was. I ordered a pie to share with my kids and girlfriend. Everyone really liked it. The service wasn't great. They made us feel like they were doing us a favor by serving us. With that said, they were very busy, so I get it, but some smiles go a long way.

Owned by local guys who care about the local economy The Port Hunter is a great addition to the Edgartown restaurant scene. We were three for dinner and I had fabulous cod fish tacos while the other two folks enjoyed the Vegatabowl. Each dish was prepared very carefully and was very fresh. The food was delish but the service was at yet another level. The staff is attentive and everyone has a job. Our waters running low, someone is right on it. Dishes need to be cleared, again someone is right on it. Food coming from the kitchen, there are two folks whose job is it to wipe each plate and make sure it looks professional. Want raw oysters, there are two people at the raw bar keeping it fresh and ready all the time. At one point we were curious how low our waters could go before being refilled, they never got below 75%! And it was not to the point of being annoying, it was professional and very well done. They do not take reservations unless you are a party of six; we were three on Monday night and got right in, but we did see lines later in the week. We will return for sure!

Join us for delicious dining on the beautiful Edgartown Harbor.
Visited here on Columbus Day weekend with my family. It was a nice evening so we got to sit outside and watch the Chappaquidick ferry go back and forth. I ordered the Lobster roll which was filled generously with lobster which had been lightly tossed with mayo and celery. The only issue was the roll wasn't very good and I found the lobster a bit salty. My wife and son tried the shrimp dumplings which were actually japanese style shumai and both liked them enough to order it a second time. My son also ordered a salmon sushi roll which he found to be quite tasty as well. The service was attentive but unobstrusive. Overall, a nice restaurant with something that will please almost anyone looking for a decent, reasonably (for MV) priced seafood meal.

First visit to Martha's Vineyard, my friend's son and her native islander daughter-in-law took us here for drinks and dinner. We were a good-sized party of 7 and a baby. The Bloody Mary with shrimp was fabulous, not too, spicy. The New England Clam Chowder was delicious. Our waitress was delightfully entertaining and very efficient. There was good island ambiance, a great view of the water, and the music was at a perfect volume to be able to hear but still have a conversation. Will go again on our return!Weâre so glad you enjoyed your visit to our restaurant . Thank you for your review.

We are located in the fishing village of Menemsha on the island of Martha's Vineyard. Open seasonally, we offer fresh, locally caught seafood in our market and from our kitchen. Come enjoy your food with us on the harbor, on the beach, or take something h
On this trip we didn't have takeout, but bought a generous, locally fished piece of Sea Bass to have at our cottage. It did not disappoint. Historically, the takeout selection of cooked or prepared foods (e.g. chowders and lobsters) have been a pleasure to consume. None of the fish markets on the Vineyard are cheap, but the quality and freshness of the locally sourced seafoods are worth it.

We enjoyed most of our dinner at Red Cat, a lively and casual but pricey restaurant steps from the main streets and festivities in OB. Food was fairly good although salmon had an over-salted crust and scallops were just okay. The service was good albeit a bit pushy, as several wait staff came by two or three times during our meal and hovered over us, asking if we âwere still working on itâ. Once I had to put my hand over my meal to stop the plate from being carried off! Is there a particular reason why diners need to âhurry up and eat?â While we recognise that as a more American style of eating, we feel that, especially in an expensive restaurant such as this, one should be able to relax and eat at leisure, without pressure from the staff.

We drove 30 minutes for supposedly the best lobster roll on MV. What a joke ! Really a fish house that sells some chowder and lobster rolls. The chowder was cold and in a tiny Dixie cup. Three to four spoonfuls at best. The lobster roll was so skimpy and flavorless that I was tempted to ask for my money back . No place to sit , broken tables - just a nightmare!
