According to an estimate taken in 2008, the town has a population of 2,420. The civil parish had a population of 16,530 (in 2011). Markinch is east of Fife's administrative centre, Glenrothes and preceded Cupar as Fife's place of warranty and justice prior to the 13th century.

Although I have fish and chip shops relatively local to my village I always beat a trail to Colinâs place some 20 miles away.The quality and service are testament to Colinâs years of experience in the industry and his involvement in some award winning premises.Itâs not just the high quality that makes the fish hoose special, they invest in mentoring and developing staff to make it a good experience. You really need to try this fish and chip bar to appreciate just how good it isReally big fish cooked to perfection in their special batter The staff are really helpful and courteous They also sell lots of other cuisines to suit all tastes but for me the fish and chips are unbeatable Also try their Italian ice cream
