Reviews on Seafood food in Maratea, Province of Potenza, Italy. Maratea is a town and comune of Basilicata, in the province of Potenza. It is the only comune of the region on the Tyrrhenian coast and because of its beautiful scenery and coastline it has been called "the Pearl of the Tyrrhenian". Owing to the considerable number of its churches and chapels it has also been described as "the town with 44 churches".

"Yumara. The terraces of taste" is a place of encounters and pleasures, where to rediscover the culture of eating well, drinking with the taste and the pleasure of finding friends. All within a magical setting, with terraces looking out over the little po
Visited here with 35 friends etc before a wedding locally just before the end of the Summer season. Great atmosphere. We had drinks, pizzas and fries. Food was served promptly despite the size of the party. Everyone enjoyed the food. Whilst the bar is a climb, the views are spectacular over the bay, so it was worthwhile.

We had a great meal, with a great view and great service. On top of that, the highlight of the whole experience was our conversation with Renaissance-man restauranteur and jewelry artist extraordinaire, Paulo Tommasini. I don't know how long my wife and I chatted with Paula after dinner, but it was so enjoyable, accompanied by his own limoncello and, after complimenting that, he served us some of his unique fennel liquor. All this was enhanced by the lovely view from our table on the second-story balcony overlooking the sunset and harbor. We had two courses each and a decent 20E white wine. All four of our dishes were superb. I had a wonderful black rice risotto with clams, mussels and prawns while Mary had a cold bluefish salad with small beans. My main was a very generous misto di mare (not what it's called on the menu) of perfectly lightly fried prawns, callimari, sardines and a whole small fish. Mary had the restaurant's signature Zuppa di Peschi which was mostly fish in a wonderful rich broth. It was just loaded with clams, mussels, pieces of white fish, callimari and large prawns. The emphasis certainly was on the fish rather than the broth. (The only thing neither of us likes were the small - less than one inch - clams in both our main courses. They were too small to hassle with the body meat and too small to not occasionally crunch on by accident. Maybe they were there to add flavor or a visual accent. Anyway, two very experienced seafood diners did not appreciate them. Probably something we don't understand.)The meal, at ~115E, was not cheap, but was worth every penny of it on our last night on a wonderful trip to southern Italy, thanks to the great food and even greater company of Paulo. Very highly recommended to seafood fanatics.

We arrived in Maratea exhausted by the demands of the coastal road and confused by the town itself. We were a bit too late for the market and things were closing up. We headed down the road and were glad to turn in here. We were the only customers so things were quiet. Prices were reasonable, yet the food was excellent! The ravioli were good, with luscious hunks of soft mozzarella and bits of eggplant. The fried fish was perfectly done. We left refreshed and very well fed! Note the actual address is Via Ondavo, 11 (not 10!)

5 nights of near luxury living, superb room, very clean and recently decorated. Adorned with some rather nice vintage and antique artefacts. Very attentive but friendly staff. Lots of quiet corners in which to sit and relax especially the splendid pool area, which in itself was perfectly laid out and offered seclusion and peace. ( I hate swimming pools by the way, but this one I could enter at all times no deeper than my chest when standing ). The only downside was the limited menu for dinner , both the daily and al a carte. Only one choice I went for was the Tempura prawns starter and the mains sea bass. Overall though , a touch of class for a reasonable price.

Restaurant 1999 has an excellent position over-looking the boat harbour and the owner was very friendly and service oriented. The food was very good quality and well presented but it is standard Italian food. Probably as good as it gets in Porto and recommended for lunch.

Lovely restaurant, beautiful views, pleasant staffOnly wish that this little restaurant could offer a couple of vegetarian mains and a meat alternative to their menu. I'm intolerant to shellfish and worried when I was eating as fish isn't really my thing butI avoided the shellfish dishes, although I had to leave my dinner on the second night and leave the restaurant early as I had taken illThis was the only restaurant available for us as we had no car and every other restaurant was miles awayIf you love fish, you'll love this restaurant

Had a very good lunch at this gourmet-like seafood restaurant. The place was very busy also due to a celebration that was taking place, so we didn't have the maximum of attention by the staff, but was ok. Excellent seafood menu, great starters, good past and good second plate. Some dishes are marked as signature dishes on the menu. We paid 70⬠and were overall satisfied.

Cala del Citro is a new restaurant that belongs to the hotel of the same name and was opened in the summer of 2018. Cala means cove (a small bay with a beach), and the restaurant looks out over the Cala del Citro near Maratea. As we arrived when it was already dark, we could only hear the surf crashing, but at lunchtime (or earlier in summer when it gets dark later) the view from the outside seating of the restaurant must be awesome. Maratea is a town on the beautiful Gulf of Policastro, and also known as the âpearl of the Tyrrhenian Seaâ. It is in the narrow piece of Basilicata wedged between Calabria and Campania. The restaurant offers an a la carte selection as well as a 7 course tasting menu for 70 euros. We opted for the latter. The first course of the tasting menu looked more like what would be called amuses bouches (small appetizers) at other restaurants. The crispy eggplant and mint ball with a bit of gazpacho was very good. There was also a tiny eggplant quiche and a cod cracker with cruschi mayonaise (cruschi is a type of pepper). The quiche was a replacement for a zucchini blossom stuffed with ricotta, because unfortunately the season for zucchini blossoms is ending.Three types of seafood carpaccio including prawn and swordfish with various garnishes. The garnishes were all very tasty, but perhaps a bit too many of them.Basil risotto with vongole. This is an original combination that works well. There was a nice amount of vongole in the risotto. As often happens in restaurants, the consistency of the risotto was not as creamy as homemade risotto.Fresh tagliolini made with squid ink, raw squid, a sauce of yellow cherry tomatoes, and a bit of bottarga grated on top. This dish was perfect and worthy of at least one Michelin star. The pasta had just the right texture, the raw squid was very tender, and the yellow tomato sauce had the flavor of fresh tomatoes, which brightened up and balanced out the dish. Well done.Stuffed red mullet with pistachios and a citrus sauce, with black olive powder. This seemed to me as if it was inspired by sarde a beccafico, a similar dish from Sicily with sardines and pinenuts. It is very difficult to serve red mullet with a crispy skin without breaking the skin, which was done perfectly. I thought however that it was a bit hard to make out the mullet due to the amount of stuffing and citrus sauce. Maybe a bit more salt on the mullet, or less stuffing, would have helped.Beltfish with cream of zucchini and mint. The fish was nice and moist. It could have handled a bit more than the small amount of zucchini cream.A very nice dessert: almond ice cream with crushed amaretti (almond cookies) and amarena cherries. Almonds and cherries are always a good combination, and this has great flavor and a nice contrast between the creamy ice cream and crispy amaretti powder.I see a great future ahead of the young chef Dario Amaro. The food is presented beautifully and very tasty. All of the dishes in the tasting menu were good, and some were excellent. The service and the wine of this new restaurant are not yet at the level of the cooking. The service during the menu was fine, but before (waiting to order) and after (waiting for coffee and the check) the waiting times were too long. The wine selection was too limited for a restaurant of this level. The food is âwine friendlyâ so a wine pairing is not strictly necessary, but a wider selection of white wines by the bottle would be great. We will certainly return to Cala del Citro when we are again in this area, as I am very curious how the restaurant will evolve. In the meantime, I definitely recommend this restaurant when you are in the area.

It is not the prettiest restaurant one could expect, forget about the sea view, the romantic atmosphere or the glamour. However if you are looking for exceptional fresh fish made with passion, knowledge and creativity, this is what you're looking for. The chef and the staff are all women and they are really a passionate, professional and friendly team. I highly recommended it!!
