We went for lunch on a Thursday before the season has really started and there were very few people around. The restaurant is slightly away from the majority of the "tourist" restaurants and is worth seeking out. The moules (mussels) were excellent and very good value at 11 Euro. My wife had the burger which was a real taste sensation with home made tomato sauce. Highly recommended!

L'Ancrage is highly rated on TripAdvisor and for this reason we choose to have dinner here. We reserved and arrived on time and were quickly seated. The restaurant is small and dark with the decor to simulate the cabin of an old sailing ship.Saint Malo is a very popular tourist destination and the restaurant seemed full with other tourist (like ourselves). Not in itself a bad sign, but the lack of local French was something to think about.... (we're French and this is always something we notice). The server arrived soon and we ordered our meals. When she returned with the wine and asked if we would like a stand for it or prefer the wine bucket placed directly on the table, before she was able to finish the inquiry the manager/owner interrupted her and ordered her not not use the stand. Again, not a big deal but her sternness with the server was impressive....Throughout the evening we witnessed the same kind of "bossiness" toward the other employees to such an extent that we and other diners were becoming uncomfortable and pitying the employees! Several times servers were effectively blocked from carrying out their duties because they had to wait for the OK from Madame the Manager. A several reprise that evening Madame the Manager loudly criticized servers in front of their clients as well as complain to the clients that without her presence, nothing would be done correctly, etc. When it came time to pay our bill, once again only Madame the Manager may touch the cash register so we had to wait while she took orders from 3 other tables (passing by us and saying that she'll be right with us) and seating new arrivals. One wonders what the servers are there for if she has to do everything. I'm not a restaurant manager but clearly Madame the Manager should consider delegation of some of her tasks. But we came for the cuisine, not to observe ineffective management, so how was it? We had a seafood platter (plateau fruits de mer) for 2 persons which included oysters, shrimp, crab, and other assorted seafood / crustaceans. Unfortunately the langoustines were very over cooked and -- let's just say that the "fresh" oysters somewhat less than fresh. On the whole, it was the lowest level of quality for a seafood platter that we've ever had. Still, not abominable but sadly less than average.Would we go again? No.

Have been here many, many times.Breakfast is excellent A great wayto start the holiday after getting off the ferry at St Malo (even though we had already .reakfast on the boat). But this time I would like to talk about the service in the evening My wife had a glass of champagne She had drunk most of itwhen she accidentally knocked it over and broke the glass. At least four waiters came over and completely changed the table. A new glass of champagne was brought free of charge even though we kept saying it was our fault!

Benefiting from an exceptional view on the baie du Prieuré and saint Malo, the restaurant is place within one of the oldest and symbolic Yacht club of France, built in 1932 by Yves Hemard, malouin architect has who(which) l we owe among others le phare de
Just briefly to say if you are in the area, this is a great place for lunch. It's affordable rather than inexpensive - but it is the sort of place that you'll remember for ages after dining there. Primarily it's the location one is paying for but having said that the food is of a high standard, the ambience is hard to beat. We ate on the rooftop terrace underneath umbrellas, shaded from the sun - every table there has a magnificent view. There is also dining on the floor below should the weather be less kind - and that is also impressive with the same view of the harbour. If one catches the ferry from St Malo - it's a short walk away (at least at high tide) at low tide the ferry lands north west - 5 to 10 minutes walk along the charming coast. Do give this place a go - it won't let you down.

The owner taught me how to open oysters with his special techniques. I bought 3 sets of oyster openers from him as souvenirs for my family. His oysters are very fresh indeed!
