INSPIRED BY OUR CULINARY ADVENTURES AROUND THE WORLD With its prime location on Umdloti Beach, Mundo Vida offers patrons seafood and bistro fare in a casual, yet professional environment. Escape into our culinary world of superior produce, exceptional cui
Overcast windy day in Umhlanga and we opted for Mundo (which has beautiful sea views), but the moody sea was still a lovely sight. We always receive good service and even though we got there 30m before our reservation- we were seated. The restaurant was also very busy. The service team is always so friendly. We no longer look at the menu because we order the same meal every time. Starters: Spanish Mussels - we love this starter. Itâs spicy. Itâs a generous portion. The sauce is so good. Fish cakes Duck spring rolls Mains: Deluxe Seafood Medley 2 baby crayfish, 2 Langoustines, 4/6 King size prawns and a piece of fish - we have it done peri peri. Itâs served on a bed of rice and it comes with a small bowl of chips. Additional accompaniments are garlic butter, lemon butter and peri peri sauce. Today this platter came out to us cold. And it was put into a burner - but it still was cold. And I donât like cold seafood. But it was cooked perfectly- the meat was tender and did not stick to the shells. Dessert: Oreo cheesecake- this was the first time that I ordered this and it was delicious. Brownie with ice cream - this is always a winner.

Ile Maurice Restaurant offers Mauritian, French and Island Creole food in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.
We visited the restaurant for our anniversary dinner and was extremly dissatisfied with the overall taste experience... The flavour of our meals did not match the price point.. The meals are generous in quantity and fresh, but tasteless. The setting is nothing special.. Feels as though u are sitting in your aunts dinning room... The positives was our waiter who was knowledgeable and friendly and we were given a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. We however will not be returning for the food or setting. Very Sorry for you and of course tastes, colors and looks are all very personal opinions. We are very fortunate that 99% of our guests do not think the same. However, Thank you however for your visit.

Olive and Oil is my go-to restaurant for special occasions. I went for my birthday with family. We had 7 different mains, and they were all excellent. We all tasted each otherâs, and it was a challenge to decide the winner. For me the stand out was the prawn pasta with gamberi sauce. The 4 children also had different dishes, and were licking there plates. Service as always was fantastic

Had a great evening at the restaurant, Freddy & his staff were on point and made sure we had an enjoyable evening. We were the last patrons to leave on the eveing. Had the jalapeno poppers as starters and the 1kg giant prawns as a main. Wow! Loved the prawns, we ordered them medium so had that slight kick but could also taste the lemon butter coming through the devine sauce.Drinks- 4starsFood - 5 stars Service- 4 starsKeep up the great work, will definitely visit the establishment when we visit Ballito again.Hi Zubz1515,What a lovely review! Thank you so much for taking the time to provide us with this feedback, something I will be sure to pass onto the managers and kitchen staff as they will be so thrilled to hear! We hope to welcome you back to Ballito and our little escape again soon!

Butcher Boys, an elegant upmarket steak restaurant, opened its doors in Morningside, Durban in November 1999. This sanctuary for meat lovers serve the best grain fed beef South Africa has to offer and our wet & dry aging process results in exceptional qua
Our first visit was great. All we could ask for, superb, perfectly matured and cooked ribeye steaks (the recommendation of our waiter) and a bottle of well priced Malbec. Service was efficient. We liked it so much we returned the next night. We normally have a rule "never go back". I wish we had stuck to it! The service was appalling. We enjoyed some very tasty biltong and were asked if we were ready for our mains straight away. We said we were, but 30 mins later they hadnât arrived. When they did, my burger and chips were barely warm, my partners steak bore little comparison with the previous nights. The waitress seemed a little out of her depth, not her fault, perhaps management should take a look at the training and supervision of its staff.Would give this place 5 stars for the first visit, only two for the second.Thank you for your feedback @crellston - consistency is key at Butcher Boys so we are disappointed to hear your 2nd visit was underwhleming. We have fed back to the team - its certainly not what we like to hear but we do appreciate the feedback.

Grill Room at the Oyster Box Hotel.
Thereâs an old fashioned elegance to the Grill Room â the chandelier, the starched linen, the waiters dressed in their very retro uniforms. Even the menu includes what you wished were more universal timeless classics. One was something definitely out of fashion in the UK â an hors dâoeuvres trolley. We couldnât recall seeing one in the last 40 years â it was a meal with my father (and he died in 1975). We did remember how good they were. And this was an absolute cracker. There must have been at least 20 different salads, meats and seafood to choose from. Another retro things was the sorbet that arrived next â lychee and pineapple, although both flavours were very muted. We followed that with another classic â chateaubriand â one of the items on the âGueridon trolley serviceâ section of the menu. Itâs an enormous piece of meat, accurately cooked as requested and carved and plated at the table. Thereâs a bit of showmanship, with brandy being poured over and flamed before carving. And thereâs an array of vegetables to go with it â asparagus, courgette, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli and baby sweetcorn. And a very well made potato dauphinoise. And some pan juices to drizzle over and an excellent béarnaise sauce. This had been a lot of food and only one of us felt they had room for dessert. The menu described it as âcaramel apple sphereâ. This was disappointing, with no real flavour of caramel and precious little of apple. Nor was it a sphere, unless they meant the blob of ice cream. This could have been good if only there had been a good twang from apple and richness from caramel but this just tasted of a generic sweetness. It all made me later wonder if Iâd actually been served the dessert Iâd ordered.Service was generally good but there was a quibble. The Grill Room is one of the places where, if you order a bottle of water, they donât leave it on the table. Now, thatâs OK if the waiters are âon the ballâ and top up your glass regularly. That didnât happen here and we had to keep asking for the bottle. And the second bottle we ordered, while still eating the main course, didnât arrive until after weâd finished eating dessert.

A little piece of Italy in Umdloti beach.
Salad recipesWe ordered a pizza and a Greek salad last night at LCN. Sent the pizza back for a little more cooking as it was a bit soggy, probably from the large amounts of toppings on it, which makes what happened next even more bizarre and surreal. When I was dishing up our salad I noticed a distinct lack of tomatoes and asked Retina, our fabulous waitress if it was possible to get a few more. Roland, the manager came over to say that heâd spoken to the owner and THAT was the way they served their salads. The R84 Greek salad, according to Roland and the official recipe, comprised of a selection of lettuce leaves (I forgot to ask how many), precisely 6 quarters of cherry tomatoes, 6 half slices of cucumber, 6 soggy olives, 4 strips each of red and green peppers, some red onion and 8 cubes (so generous) of feta cheese, and there was nothing he could do to get us any more tomatoes. That was that. We let this sink in for a few minutes, completely flabbergasted at his response before calling him back over. We told him, in no uncertain terms, how badly He had handled the situation and for the price of another 6 quarters of cherry tomatoes, he could have had 2 happy customers. 5 minutes later, he reappeared with a ramekin of cherry tomatoes and told us that he would not be charging us for the salad. He had spoken to the owner again and this is what they had told him to do. Really!?! We never did query the price of the salad, nor were we ever angling for a freebie, but to go through that whole process to try and get 1 ½ extra CHERRY tomatoes (not big whole tomatoes) was just a complete joke and a should be a lesson in restaurant management for young Roland. 20c worth of tomatoes cost you R84 in revenue and 2 happy customers.Thank you for your feedback and for bringing this to our attention. Apologies that this was not dealt with correctly by our manager on duty. Please will you send me your contact details on [email protected]

I've written a few reviews about this restaurant as we always eat here while we spend some time on the coast during winter. As always we were welcomed by Julian and he remembered my name from last year. Well done!!We had fresh Kingklip and it was delicious. The dessert were nice and sweet as always. One of the things that I realized over the years eating here is to eat the proposed meal as Julian puts in a lot of effort to bring something special to the table. We love this place. Wish it was in Gauteng that could eat here more often.
