Chalcis (/ˈkælsɪs/; Ancient Greek & Katharevousa: Χαλκίς, Chalkís) or Chalkida (Modern Greek: Χαλκίδα, [xalˈciða]) is the chief town of the island of Euboea in Greece, situated on the Euripus Strait at its narrowest point. The name is preserved from antiquity and is derived from the Greek χαλκός (copper, bronze), though there is no trace of any mines in the area. In the late Middle Ages, it was known as Negropont(e), an Italian name that has also been applied to the entire island of Euboea.

Although I have been living in Halkida for over 10 years I always though this place was a tourist trap and religiously avoided it....I couldn't have been more wrong. Although always frequented by tourists, it absolutely amazing. Everything is super clean, the seafood the best I have had since I moved here and the prices very reasonable. Spyros the owner very efficient as we'll as his staff . With the best views of Halkida bridge and right above the sea!!Highly recommended!

This is a bit out of the way if you are in Athens. But itâs a gem. One of my favourite tavernas in Greece. Near Chalcis itâs worth going just to try it. Juicy seafood, calamari, octopus, prawns, various local fishes and salads including a tasty cheese pie. Downed by ouzo or tsipouro next to the sea (literally). Reasonably priced, friendly service. I donât miss it whenever (once or twice a year) Iâm in the area.

We are going to Khalkis very often but somehow we had missed this nice seafood restaurant. We visited it in mid-April when it was still chilly for seating outside in the evening so we had our dinner indoors. The interior was very pleasant but seating outside in summer at the promenade next to the sea must be a delight. Although the restaurant was full the service was reasonably fast and the waiters attentive to our needs. All the traditional Greek meze we tried were good and tasty. No complaint about this. Our only problem the management was allowing customers to smoke inside the restaurant in spite the prohibiting law. But this is a problem with most local restaurants in Greece when you are eating inside.

A good Greek tavern where you can find seafood and meat dishes.People are very friendly, very clean and a pleasant place.I liked a lot the zuccini fried balls, cooked veg. variety, cooked feta and spicy cheese salad.

A slow service in combination with medium quality food. A bad quality octopus. Fries not properly cooked. The saganaki with the white sauce was nothing to impress neither. We had several dishes and we were not excited with any of them.Bill at the end was reasonable. I would try something different for ouzo and mezedes.

Very nice restaurant with nice dishes in the concept of Volo's tsipouradica. "You can only order the liquer ouzo or tsipouro, and the bring together some small apetizers (mezedes). Nice taste and very good prices. Only con that they have many frozen ingredients. However that is how they can keep the prices low on this type of seafood.Recomended !

We may have caught them on a bad day but all the dishes we tried were very average (tarama, shrimp saganaki) and what was translated on the menu as prawn/crab/lobster salad turned out to be surimi sticks in mayonnaise. The reviews on Trip Adviser tempted us to drive here from Eretria for a meal (the drive turned out longer and slower than anticipated) when the meal we had in Eretria was actually much better and on a much nicer beach!

If you ever find yourself in or around Chalkida, Greece, do yourself the greatest favor you've ever done yourself: Go get seafood risotto at Kapetanios. You can email me your thanks later, I'll be here.Visited once, and also tasted the magnificent cuttlefish salad, exquisite grilled sardines and delicious, homemade eggplant salad (spread on wonderfully grilled oiled bread). An overall sublime seafood experience.I live about 80km away from this place, but I'll drive any time just to eat there again. Hell, I would even walk there!
