Every single time I got ton San Diego I stop at this little gem. It's tucked a away between a gym and laundry mat, but DO NOT let that scare you. The service is always friendly and prompt. The food is amazing, large per portioned, and priced just right. They have recently made a few interior design changes since the last time I had been, so that was nice to see. There are TV's that always have Fùtbol or other sports on and big booths to get comfy and watch the game while you eat. Although anything on the menu will blow your mind, I always get the chicken flautas. AMAZING! Make sure you pick this place for at least one meal when you're in the neighborhood. You will not be disappointed.

The magnificence of the undersea world of Anthony's Fish Grotto cannot be overstated! I have the happiest memories here! For stunning architecture, charming atmosphere, delicious food and gracious service, Anthony's is simply the best.Scroll to see Anthony's 1959 menu and read about Mama Ghio: "An uncommon early menu from Anthony's Fish Grotto, with b/w photographic vignettes of Catherine "Mama" Ghio, her two sons, Anthony and Tod, and her son-in-law, Roy Weber to the front. Catherine opened the restaurant in 1946, when she was in her fifties and a widowed mother of three. It soon became a landmark of the city's cuisine, opening several other locations and moving to its most well-known location on waterfront in the 1960s. After over 70 years of business, the San Diego restaurant closed in 2017 when its lease with the city expired." The La Mesa location survives. Menu courtesy abaa.org.Dear Adrienne: Thank you for the kind words and the retelling of the Anthony’s history. Our remaining La mesa location is truly a gem; an oasis in East County. The pond, the ducks, the dog friendly dining, the serene patio and lush landscaping create a relaxed and rejuvenating atmosphere. And of course one of the cities largest selections of fresh seafood and Mama Ghio’s original recipes keep guest coming back for over 73 years. Thank you again for the kind words; I can’t wait to share them with our wonderful staff.Regards, Craig Ghio

I hadn't eaten here in many years because the last time I ate there it tasted very commercial-ly, get-your-meals-out-fast. I had a hard time understanding what people liked about it. I am happy to say that the food tastes much better now!

My wife and I when to the New Poncho's Mexican Food Restaurant in Rancho San Diego today and had a good experience. My wife had the Chilaquiles Rojos for her breakfast meal, and I had the Huevos Rancheros. My wife liked her Chilaquiles Rojos and said they were very tasty and nicely cooked. My Huevos Rancheros were also good. Poncho's has a Salsa Bar where you can get all the homemade salsa you want. Both meals came with rice and beans. Poncho's Mexican Food has only been in the Rancho San Diego location for 4 1/2 months, and the inside of the Restaurant has all new seating, painting, signs, TV's, etc. The Restaurant was spotless clean ! Brenda Marquez the cashier and order taker was very nice, as she answered our questions and took our order. This new Poncho's Mexican Food is owned and managed by Alfonso Gutierrez. Alfonso was also very nice as I asked him questions about his families other 2 Poncho's Restaurants in the El Cajon area, owned by other family members. Nice, Clean and Friendly place, with some good food.

We have enjoyed eating at this restaurant since they opened. The menu is extensive with many choice including fish, meats, salads, soups and wines. They have a new chef. They have an amuse bouche which is always good. However, the best thing of the restaurant is their personnel. We always request Missy as our server. She is very personable, knows our taste and idiosyncrasies when it comes to beverages and food. She is efficient, attentive and aims to please. She is attractive and friendly. When Missy us not there, Chastity is also a very good server. Scotty the bartender is is great. He knows and remembers our tastes when it comes to drinks. He goes out of his way to accommodate us. Laura the hostess is pleasant and courteous. Danny Montaño, who is our host, is the best of the best. He responds promptly for any request made. He is friendly, accommodating, attentive and personable. We couldn't ask for a better host and because of him Jamul is our exclusive casino. Thank you Danny! We dine there because of the service.
