We were disappointed with this restaurant, which came highly recommended by staff at our hotel. Its huge menu, which included English descriptions, made me apprehensive, because I wondered how all the items could possibly be prepared well. And, unfortunately, it turned out that we had an uneven meal. My grilled salmon arrived a bit dry and the baked potato was kind of mealy. My husband ordered scallops and only received one, but it was large and good. The sauteed eggplant had a nice consistency and flavor but we disliked the taste of the green and red seaweed salad. We considered our dinner to be a hit-or-miss experience. That said, this restaurant proved to be an extremely popular place. The huge room had customers at all its myriad tables when we entered around 7:45 p.m. on a Sunday and we got the last two seats at the dining bar. Based on the languages I heard, I think the restaurant gets a large tourist clientele. Servers scurried throughout the place, taking orders and delivering food quickly. But ours remained attentive to our needs. For example, a server saw me struggling with my chopsticks on the baked potato and offered me a knife and fork. This ultra-casual restaurant stands near La Vista Hotel in the Hakodate Bay Bishoku Club complex. I think those who arrive armed with specific recommendations for menu selections may have a better-than-average meal.

Fish hotpot warmed up the chilly November night in Hakodate at this restaurant. The dark slipper fish sashimi is out of the world and really fresh and sweet that I will recommend you try it out! My friend also had the fresh oyster which was fat and juicy. Had the abalone which we opted for the sashimi style but i believe it may be better to have it cooked for more taste and a smoother bite. It was good dinner all in all!

I went with my friend and we seated in the tables on the second floor, it was a great place to eat, kaisendon was so fresh, I tried scallop, sea urchin and crab kaisendon, delicious. Worth what you pay for it. There's even grilled fish for those who don't eat raw fish. Good place in Hakodate Asa Ichi market.

We choose this long history restaurant for our last meal (breakfast) among so many in morning market and it didn't dissappoint us at all. We ordered seafood (5 color/selection) bowl and it's huge and great. All seafood are fresh, esp. the urchin. My friend ordered octopus sashimi (i passed as the way of eating live octopus a bit disgusting to me) which is fresh too. Price is quite reasonable and menu has large variety. The restaurant is not large but full of local customers. However, the elder waitress is not friendly to Chinese customers.
I think this is a hidden gem! If you are driving (20mins from Red Brick Warehouse) I suggest you visit this seafood restaurant instead of eating at the Hakodate Market. Seafood restaurants at Hakodate is overpriced, I think it is cater to tour groups too!We had a meal on Day 1 and return to have another meal after our visit to Hakodate Market because if find this price here is much more reasonable here. They canât speak English and menu is in Japanese but there a few pictures available that you can pick and order.Seafood here is really fresh too!

The food is superb and very reasonably priced. Trust me when I say pricing is reasonable. Unlike some comments I read about how pricy it is etc, probably they are expecting $1 sushi, well I donât think they have that in Japan. For the quality you are getting at this place, the pricing totally reasonably. 3 pax total about SGD$40. Freshness in the sushi brings out the sweetness as well for the sashimi. You can tell the waiter that you want sashimi and not sushi and the chef will do it for youEnglish menu available.Have fun !

My wife is Japanese and she'd heard of this place on Japanese web sites. It's a tiny, non-descript fish restaurant in the main fish market next to lots of other similar ones. No reason to choose it if you didn't know! But - I can highly recommend it. Whatever you order comes with about 10 tiny dishes of bits and pieces - fish stew, pickles, miso pastes, etc.... all of which went down well with the sashimi (raw fish) on rice meals that we ordered. The chef/shop owner gave us some extra fish eggs for our 3 year old who wolfed them all down! Friendly atmosphere, no rushing and we took our time. Very nice!

Kaikobo is a great seafood restaurant is located in the Asaichi - morning-market area. We had a cod tempura dish, hairy crab, oysters, salad, salmon and salmon egg omisubi (rice ball). They also served a tasty appetizer of smoked scallops and egg roll on kelp (kazunoko). All of the dishes were absolutely delicious. We will definitely make a return trip to the restaurant the next time weâre in Hakodate.

I'm Japanese and I know Japanese portions are smaller than of US or elsewhere.Still... The portion is so small that after ordering a sea urchin bowl and two appetizers, we were still very hungry! bill for our lunch came out (3 people and one of them only order scallops/salmon don and no sea urchin) more than $100 to be hungry for lunch....I was really disappointed because I was really looking forward to try this place.Sea urchin quality was good but nothing different from other Hakodate places.I would probably not go back again even though I go to Hakodate often since it's my hometown and my family still live there...Go elsewhere and enjoy same sea urchin....or better buy a box of fresh sea urchin and eat it at home over rice!
