Miwa's have been around a long time. It's been a place we go for simple and fast Japanese comfort food.Not much of a tourist attraction, it being kinda hidden in the Hilo Shopping Center away from most go to popular attractions in Hilo.The restaurant its self is a bit run down already, but the food has always been consistent and tasty. Keep hoping they'd add more to their sushi menu but like the entire menu....still the same.After eating their so many times, you kinda stick to the same choices.If you're looking for a fast simple Japanese taste, quiet seating, and not much of a large serving or family style, Miwa's is a place to check out.

Talk about fresh, the food here was just spectacular. Fresh fish, super delicious. I could not figure out their system and the people were so nice and understanding and make me feel so welcome and at home. Which is good because this place does NOT look like a restaurant. It looks like a run down shipping office and is even located in an industrial looking area. The toppings and other food are in ghetto plastic takeaway containers. They are cooking their rice in just regular rice cookers from the store.Here's how it works, you tell them you want a bowl, which is already cheaper than "chipotle poke" places. They hand you your fish and rice and you put on the toppings you want. None of this Chipotle business where the server puts stuff on for you. You want to completely cover your poke in furikake? Go for it.No place to sit. Some kids were sitting on their front step. Hardly any parking. I was the third customer and got the last spot. We ate in our car. If you're a tourist going to the falls or whatever and need a bathroom, go to Target a couple blocks away.If we lived here we'd be here every day. Cheap high quality food with the most friendly employees, that is a recipe for success. It looks run down as heck and the signage and instructions are terrible. You have no idea what you are walking into and honestly I can see people just being too afraid to go in or even understand what is happening in there. The epitome of hole in the wall secret locals only food.

We returned to Seaside Restaurant after being off island for 5 years. Seaside was very good before but has improved since our last visit. The house over the fishing ponds provides a great atmosphere. The food was fresh, well presented and excellently prepared. Our portions were generous, more so than other seafood restaurants we have visited. Service was very good, prompt, knowledgeable and attentive. This was an excellent dinner for our return to the Big Island.

We were surprised at the quality and variety of food considering the very reasonable prices. The assortment of Bento Box choices is fantastic. Considering that this is a small establishment and busy, the staff was very good at arranging a table for six people by moving things around. Definitely a recommendation for Japanese food.

My family and I made reservations as we heard it can get busy. They chose an 8PM reservation time even though the restaurant "closes" at 8:30. They were very slow seating us despite having multiple tables open they chose to wait for someone else to leave and then clean their table. Our waiter rushed us along the whole night. The entrees are also a little overpriced. Vegetable tempura should not be over $12. Overall, this is a pretty decent place especially in Hilo.

On our first night in Hilo we came hungry and ready to try a new restaurant. Wanting to avoid our hotel's offerings, we headed out for a walk to nearby Ponds restaurant. The glow of the lights at night over the water beckoned us in. It wasn't very busy being a weeknight, but everyone was welcoming and attentive. We were seated by the windows overlooking the koi pond; they gave us a little cup of food to feed them as waited.They had live music playing and a few tables with happy diners. The menu had a lot of options, but the specials sounded fantastic as well. We loved the freshness of the food, especially the produce and salads, a common theme for the weekend. The homemade bread and seasoned butter were amazing. My parents split the seafood pasta special, I went with the fish and chips; light and fluffy white fish on a bed of fries. Prices were a little high for the portions, but we were happy with the quality and taste. If you're staying in any of the major hotels outside of town, it's a quick walk over here and worth your time!

Enjoyed their take on Caesar Salad and Rack of Lamb although over cooked. The purple sweet potato side about stole the show. Service was very polite and sweet but ran slow... waited for drinks, appetizers, and main course... all waiting longer than considered normal. I asked for medium lamb but served well done... didnât send back because I was told I was lucky to get the last order. Thereâs parking across the street. A few years ago, I wrote a negative review for Pineapple's. Yesterday's visit changed my mind. A problem before was bad service, but the service this time was impeccable. Issues with a food order in the past also led to a negative experience, but the food on this occasion was absolutely exceptional. We both had the special, coconut-crusted ono on a grilled pineapple ring, served with garlic mashed potatoes, on a bed of sauteed summer squash. The quantity was beyond generous, with two large ono steaks as the star of the plate, and the combination of textures and flavors was perfect. In terms of value for money, this was a very good deal. The reason I give Pineapple's only 4 stars is the ambience. The restaurant is open on two sides to a busy street looking out toward the farmers' market, and traffic noise from one side colliding with a large and boisterous bar on the other means the room is not for everyone. On the other hand, having eaten in similar places in Fiji and the Philippines, I enjoyed the deja vu from those experiences, and the great food and beverages we enjoyed will definitely bring us back for more.

Husband and I had been dying to eat here. Last year, Hurricane Lane kept us away. Our server, Emily and her team set the bar for our entire anniversary vacation. We ordered every seafood item on the menu and each was more ono than the one before. The ahi was fresh and silky and amazing. We finished with lilikoi pie and the absolute best espresso ever brewed.We usually donât repeat restaurants, no matter how fantastic, but weâre going to make an exception for this one.
