Recently visited The Half Shell with a family member. We ordered a dozen raw oysters and the crab cake appetizer. The oysters were extremely small and dry. The crab cakes were small, pan fried and had a below average flavor. We ordered bisque and half fried oysters and fried shrimp. The bisque was excellent, shrimp were good, oysters were way over cooked. Drinks were good, along with the service. Very nice atmosphere. I will not return due to the food quality. Very expensive for what we received. For the prices, quality should have been much better. Dear tmitchell38305,We are so sorry to hear about your experience at the Covington location. We didn't live up to the high standards that we are known for. We have contacted the location about your experience and we will be in the restaurant to look at the problem. We finally took advantage of their 1/2 price Thursday Oyster night, and they were good.Their regular price for oysters is already reasonable, But, a dozen large ones on the half-shell for only $6.50 ? Can't afford not to come on Thursdays.I had a dozen raw and a dozen Charbroiled, both delicious. A few Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan beers followed them down nicely. Now for our dinner entrees, my wife and I had:- Soft shell crab (2) platter over french fries, with a side salad ( very good);- Ponchartrain Redfish, with a crawfish gumbo type sauce topping, and steamed mixed veggies ( delicious).- The onions rings we also had were very good. The place is not fancy and a little rustic inside and very family friendly ( but several big screen TVs all around with baseball games on). Being 1/2 price oyster night, it was very full with many family groups and plenty of tables with 2 like us or 3 to 4.Our waitress Hannah did an excellent job ( kept bringing me more cocktail sauce, horse-radish, and the beers of course) with a smile. There is parking in the back, since the restaurant is right on Boston Street.

We stopped here on recommendations of friends. It was a Saturday around 1:30 so wasnât that crowded but we stood almost 10 minutes before being told we could just sit anywhere. The staff was very friendly but seemed frazzled. I ordered the Crab Cakes with the Crawfish sauce & pasta. The crab cakes were very good but the pasta was swimming in sauce. I realize that other people may like a small portion of pasta with twice as much sauce but I think it was way too much. My friend got the veal and she said the same thing, way too much sauce. The other comment I have is for almost $20, the entree should come with a side salad, it seems ridiculous that you need to pay almost $5 to add a salad to your meal. We both left half of our food uneaten because of the sauce. If we decide to go back, we will definitely ask for half the sauce or order something that doesnât come with sauce.

Nice and quite place to have some good Cajun food. Wife ordered the stuff fried catfish and I ordered the crawfish étouffée. Fried catfish was a good portion and really stuffed with a lot of crab. Wife had a choice of a side dish and she chose the red beans and rice that came in a small dish and was very tasty. As for my dish it came with a lot of small delicious crawfish meat and on top of the steamed rice. The seasoning they used on the vegetables and crawfish was delicious. Service was friendly but a bit slow which was fine because we werenât in a hurry.

Went for a late lunch with husband and mother-in-law. We had the Blackened Alligator appetizer and cup of Chicken and Sausage Gumbo; both were very good. Husband had Blackened Shrimp Pasta (Very Good), I had the Blackened Redfish which came with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes (which was fantastic) but mother-in-law had the fried oysters that were not good, very gritty. Service was fantastic and dessert was awesome too (Berry Cobbler a la mode and White Chocolate Bread Pudding!!!)

This restaurant serves fried and broiled seafood dishes as well as Louisiana dishes including etouffe and jambalaya. The food is good and fairly plentiful but may not live up to expectations based on the long-standing reputation of the original restaurant. (Sorry) It's also at or above the mid-range in cost, especially if you order drinks and desserts. The dining area is a large open space that has televisions mounted in the corners of the room.

One of three Chimes locations.
Fabulous food in a beautiful, clean, airy, refreshing restaurant in a beautiful location. Wait staff, particularly Bee, are fast, efficient and helpful. The food was above our expectations as this is some of the best Southern & Cajun food we have eaten!!Portions are large and prices reasonable. The blackened alligator appetizer was excellent, the fried catfish & shrimp dinner was excellent, but the Duck and Sausage gumbo was the best ever and I can call it "To Die For", yum, yum ! ! ! The White Chocolate Bread Pudding with Pecan Bourbon Sauce was divine. The Chimes is good for everyone, couples, family, friends, business and solo customers.Do yourself a favor and eat here, you will be glad you did.

I have been meaning to try this restaurant for some time. Last Saturday I stopped by as they opened to check it out. The dining room is nicely appointed with ceiling fans and windows overlooking the greenery near the river. I ordered the Catfish Lafayetta - stupendous. My wife would not stop talking about how good it was all afternoon. I also order a Catfish Poboy and a Shrimp Poboy. My expectations were low since we have some really good Poboy restaurants in Covington. I should have raised them - they were terrific. Overflowing with their contents and nicely dressed on fresh bread. All three of these dishes are moving this restaurant up my list of great places to eat in our fine city.
