Excellent, delicious crab (al mojo de ajo and al diablo) and whole fried fish. Ceviche was not very special, but was also fresh. Beachside atmosphere was lovely. Prices were not that cheap, but were quite reasonable for a beachside venue.Located right next to where the boats leave for sightseeing trips of flaminglo enclaves, it is worth stopping here to eat after an excursion.

We arrived at lunchtime and decided to eat at the table outdoors, overlooking the central park. The waitress provided us with menus and promptly got our drinks. Then we never saw her again! We waited over 30 minutes for her to return to take our order. We even went into the interior restaurant and asked her to serve us.... another 15 minutes and she did not show up. We were hungry before we arrived and now famished. We walked back inside, dropped off money which we assumed would be sufficient for our pop and water, and walked across the road to the taco stand and were immediately served there. By the way . . the restaurant was not busy. There was just one other couple in the restaurant waiting to be served.
This is a family run restaurant which suffers from competition with fancier beachfront restaurants right across the street. It only had a few customers the three times I ate there. However, if you don't care about ambiance, and don't mind the less than professional service, and perhaps a TV on in the background, and love homecooked seafood at reasonable prices, try this place. You certainly will get waited on and receive your food far faster than the touristy places on the beach. My favorite dish there was Cevice Mixto - a large dinner plate with mounds of tender seafood. I took half back to my room for another day. Their guacamole was good, and again large, so took remainder as take out. Tried their conch in garlic sauce - not as tender as the ceviche conch, but very tasty.
Hunger set in and we decided to lunch at the Restaurant Celestun. The fish I was wary about ordering until the waiter brought out 2 fish on a plate for me to choose from. The flesh was firm, and the eyes where crystal clear an indication of how fresh it was. My choise was a good one the fish was excellent and more so with a little extra garlic sauce.
This is the first restaurant we went to on our stay. We both ordered some beers and were relaxing and enjoying the excellent ocean view. Some locals came up to us and told us la tortuga...la tortuga (turtle...turtle) We ran up the beach and got to sea a sea turtle lay her eggs. This was amazing! So we returned and my husband order the stone crab cold. It was very fresh stone crab claws and so delicious! I had some past and shrimp. It was very good. We really enjoyed this place and returned several more time on our stay for lunch and dinner.

I just spend 3 nights in lovely Celestun, and there is no better place to stay overnight then Casa Peon :-) Comfortable bed, spacious room, lovely breakfast...They made me some really good veggie meals (not on the menu, but you can ask them). Great place to hang out as well, with the bar, terrace in- and outside...beautifull wall paintings make the place look welcoming. I especially enjoyed drinking my coffee sitting on the little terrace on the street, in the morning sun :-)

You are already by the beautiful beach of Celestun listening the sound of the waves.. And then there is the most delicious and the freshest ceviche, made of seafood literally harvested the same morning! Very cheap place, delicious fish and seafood and also showers to fresh up after spending the all day at the beach.

This wouldn't be the first time we've been to La Palapa and once more, the experience was a delightful experience. Even if the thatcher roof had been recently blown off because of excessive strong winds, the restaurant was opened with tables set on the beach and its staff was proving once more that the high standards are part of their signature. The problem with the restaurant is choosing a meal. They're all very well prepared and are simply delicious. So after having visited the reserve and taken all your flamingo pictures, La Palapa is the place to go.

The location is great - right on the beach in Celestun (the flamingo/bird reserve town). The food unfortunately did not impress - it was probably the poorest meal I ate in Mexico. I ordered the blue crab and it simply didn't measure up. The veg and rice with it were tasty, though rather lukewarm. My parents seemed to enjoy their dishes (fried and breaded fish dinners). The lemonade saved the day for me - it really was excellent. The bathroom facilities are not up to par either - it's a huge restaurant (indoor and outdoor seating) and there were only three stalls in the ladies' room! There were also no hooks to hang your bag in the stall. It was ok but I wouldn't go back.
