So disappointed â¹ï¸This place has the great looks the patter and nice staff. What it doesnât have is gluten free foods. Not even fish and chips!!! That came as a great shock because nowadays practically all eating places serve various choices of gluten free food. The waitress even tried to say to me âThereâs plenty vegetarian choicesâ. I was like âwell that may be the case but it all has gluten in itâ!!! Obviously no training done here on allergies and seriously itâs shocking that in this day and age that this place is years behind the time. My friend had a burger and she said it was beautiful. The food certainly looked very nice that was going out to others. I had to pick the least thing that would cause effect so it was fish and chips and leave the batter to the side. As for going back again, well unfortunately, due to lack of food for me itâs a big fat NO!!!My suggestion would be to sort your menu out so you are up to the standard of every other resturant in the U.KHi,I am very sorry that you have chose to write a review like this and feel that this was your experience. We have many items on the menu that are gluten free and have a strong team who are trained to show you our allergen guides and go through processes to ensure guests with allergies can make an informed decision. It is unfortunate that on this occasion you did not want to go through these with the team member and insisted that you wanted to have fish and chips - which you are correct in stating that we don't have a gluten free batter for this but you chose to eat it regardless as this was what you wanted to eat.Allergies are a massive responsibility for our team and the processes we have are in place to ensure our guest safety at all times. I'm sorry you didn't feel your experience was great Team Melville

Small café serving homemade food from breakfast, soups, lasagne, toasties, baked potatoes pies and cake!
In Musselburgh with my 20 year old son today and we were starving and this wonderful cafe was first place we came across so nipped in...so glad we did. We both had soup and a toastie with a soft drink then I ordered tea and the carrot and walnut cake(love a homemade cake) which was soo delicious and fresh. Staff were wonderful and looks like the type of cafe you would want to work in. Cafe was full and everyone in there were all relaxed and really enjoyed themselves as lovely welcoming feel about the place. If back in Musselburgh I wil definitely be back. Prices were really good...very impressed.

We decided ahead of further travels to spend quality time in lovely setting, not disappointed.Great two course meal, starter was the Haggis corgette, absolutely beautiful, with delicious sauce and could have asked for better. Then the steak, Rib Eye with a sauce and pot chips, another great choice and again cooked just the way we liked it. Could have had a chocolate dessert but we had to quit whilst ahead, top class experience, and I highlightly recommend we trip. Worth the just under £60 paid.Dear Kevinodonnell,Thank you very much for taking the time to leave us your valuable feedback following your dining experience with us. Our head chef likes to use ingredients that have been farmed, caught, raised and bred in Scotland in order to offer the best locally sourced produce available. We have since launched a new winter menu therefore it would be a fantastic opportunity to welcome you back!Kind regards,The Melville Castle team.

My husband and I went for dinner and as we have been there before thought it would have been good - it wasn't. The customer service was fantastic - couldn't fault it but the food was shockingly bad and I feel that I've been cheated out of £60. The salad which came with the salad was warm, the chicken strips were tasteless and my main wasn't the best sea bass as it was served with what looked like everybody's left overs. I should have complaint but I was drinking wine and didn't realise how bad it was until I got home. I felt terrible for three days and now just recovering for it. My husband felt the same. We won't be returning.

Called in with my daughter for lunch and we had a great time. Food was fantastic and staff were great and chatted as they worked. Both staff serving weren't kids and they would have put the kids to shame, they were busy but we're lovely with little diners and they just worked together beautifully. The food was great and freshly cooked. We both had pasta which was divine and hot and bubbly which is my perfect meal. Definitely worth a visit. We loved it. X

We were just passing through Bonnyrigg and stopped off for drinks. Coffee was really nice, one of the best Iâve had in in a while. Really relaxed and friendly atmosphere with great service.Whilst we sat we saw some of the food being delivered to other tables and it looked lovely. The burgers looked amazing, just wish weâd had more time to try them. We will be back to eat as soon as possible.

The freshly cooked steak pie is to die for Service is fantastic and once you have been a couple of times they know your name which makes a massive difference when you walk in.
