Reviews on Scandinavian food in Frederikshavn, Jutland, Denmark. This bustling transport hub, site of the terminal for ferries to and from Norway, is a city of 25,000. Primarily a hectic ferry port and shopping pit stop, it's popular with Swedes and Norwegians, who visit to stock up on appealingly priced meat and alcohol. If you miss your ferry or tire of edible and potable on-shelf options, visit Bangsbo Museum, an open-air attraction full of 18th-century buildings, 14th-century ruins, antique farm equipment and handicrafts created from hair and WWII relics.

Best restaurant in champagne, seafood and a la carte. If you love the sea, this is the place to be only few meters from the water.
The only choice of restaurant on the Frederikshavn harbour for visiting boat guests (if not travelling to the city) - but that´s not necessarily a bad thing, because this is a great find. The restaurant seems newly opened after a renovation of the old restaurant.Very tasteful mussels nicely flavoured. The fries served well as a side-dish for once, as I usually dislike this combination. There are some tasteful beers available, and it seems like a perfect spot for Champagne enthusiasts. However, as for the backyard they have to do something about all the flies.. Nonetheless, full score from me.

My family walked into this place after a long day of driving. We were welcomed in a friendly way and were given a table (the last one available). The fact that it was full of Danish families was a good first sign: when Danes (or any other cultural/ethnic group) go to a restaurant that serves their own food, it's usually because they do it better than what one can have at home. Though the staff was not very fluent in English, they did their best, and speaking German was a big help too, as one of the waitresses, her first day on the job, was fluent in German. Being offered an English menu sure helped us understand what we were about to order. We each had something different (quite rare for us), including fish & chips for our youngest and something more daring for our eldest and ourselves: various fish dishes. In fact, they were all classic Danish fish dishes, but delivered in a visually stunning, mouth-watering way. It wasn't the cheapest place we could have eaten, but it was worth every kroner. It's the kind of restaurant that really sets the standard for what Danish food can be: traditional yet inventive, and above all, amazingly flavourful. No, it's not Noma, but it was delightful nonetheless.A week after eating here, we went for lunch at the Hirstals Kro Restaurant in Hirstals, which was the exact opposite experience. Check out my review.Hi,We are glad to hear, that you enjoyed your stay at "Den Fornøjelige" - which actually can be translated to "The enjoyable" :-)Further we are more than happy, to have given you the experience, to try some of the old traditional danish cousin. The northern part of Jutland is famous for it's fish - so it almost was "must try" wasn't it?We are thankful for the kind words and hope that you enjoyed you travel.Best regards"Den Fornøjelige"

We both ordered a salmon and avocado salad for lunch. You look at the menu, sit wherever you like but then return to the bar to place your order where you are given an electronic device which buzzes when your meals are ready for collection. In addition to the salads we ordered two bottles of carbonated water which were extortionately priced. When the meal arrived, it was very disappointing. It consisted mostly of lettuce and not much else. Everything was there but in very small amounts. This was a very expensive meal, which was disappointing to say the least and no service was provided at all to make up for the inadequacy of the food.

Classic Danish food, served in an cosy restaurant, almost as a visit at grand mothers.
I had the plaice with fries, and it was delicious. Fish as fresh as it can be in seaside town, beautifully fried, french fries hot and crunchy. My husband had Stjerneskud made in very traditional Danish way - with both fried and boiled plaice, mountain of shrimps and all good stuff that should be in this dish. Even though I'm not a great fan of Danish cuisine, this food was fresh and delicious.

There is an air of commercialism about this place which is a little offputting. But there is an amazing array of seafood dishes and assorted salads, about everything you could wish for. The service was overworked but luckily you do not need much to help yourself at a buffet. The view is pleasant and on the day we went mid week in May it was not too crowded. There is an elevator to the floor and a handicap WC as well.

Great location, peaceful atmosphere, friendly service and delicious beef. Aberdeen-Angus beef topped with truffle sauce was just excellent. Exciting menu, but I never enjoy seeing crocodile on the menu.If visiting Sæby, its´definitely worth locating this hidden gem. My best meal in 2017. No doubt.

Good food but I was struggling with the service. It was very stand off-ish and we had a feeling of disturbing the staff. We spent quite a bit of money and the servings we got was very well executed. Frederikshavn is a small town trying to attract tourists. I feel they should try harder to deliver a good service. If this is successful, I think it could be an up and coming place

Experiences in food made of local and seasonal produces. Also, we forage some of our produces in the Nature. The future of cooking is to find in the past, and we use old ways of preparing the food, such as pickling, salting and fermenting and adding it to
There is no doubt that Gratværk is the new No. 1 restaurant in Frederikshavn! We had the pleasure of visiting the restaurant for dinner, and had the 3-course set menu - food was excellent and the prices very reasonable. The restaurant is very small but cozy and inviting.Although the restaurant was full, and it seemed as if only two employees were around (the owners?), they managed a great and enthusiastic service.

What a delight and hidden gem in the pedestrian street of Frederikshavn! We came for a day visit with the ferry from Oslo. Having lived in Copenhagen years ago, i always had the soft spot for danish lunch. This restaurant took it to another level! Best sandwiches i ever had; We tried the «tartar,» «roastbeef» and «lun leverpostej.» Blown away! The Tour Guide at the harbour said this place was very «upscale» and expensive. The prices are more than fair. I also disagree with «upscale.» it was just a place to come, feel welcome and just enjoy a magic monday!Feel alive!

This cozy corner cafe has delicious sweets as well as a full line of coffee drinks (and maybe wine/alcohol- I had coffee and didnât notice). They serve salads, sandwiches and other food too. They have a piano and while they werenât playing music while we were there, Iâm assuming itâs there for a reason. The owners are super nice. There is a wide array of cookbooks there in multiple languages to browse through while enjoying your drink.
