Whitby is a seaside town, port and civil parish in the Borough of Scarborough and English county of North Yorkshire. It is located within the historic boundaries of the North Riding of Yorkshire. A pity that an otherwise enjoyable occasion was spoilt by a noisy (male) crowd whose loud voices drowned out everybody else's attempts at conversation . The ground floor restaurant may not have changed much since Dickens slept /ate here but the food if definitely twenty first century , where presentation is everything , but it does taste good too . Service is pleasant and efficient . The menfolk enjoyed their steak and I was happy with my unusual 'take' on mushroom risotto . Well worth the visit .

Visited The Hart on a few occasions recently. Fabulous seafood menu, gluten free and veggie available, steaks and pub grub all at a very reasonable price.Would pick this little gem above any pub in the area for food, great service, dog friendly and amazing views across the bay.

The Fox and Hounds has recently re-opened as a Country Pub. New owners want to re-establish the business as a family, dog and walker friendly establishment. Home cooked food and real ale is served in a village location with beautiful views from the beer g
out on a long walk we realised it didn't take us past a pub for lunch. stumbled across a sign for this pub, it was 3/4 of a mile out of the route but there was no other choice.Across a field of cows and a great game of avoid the cow pat, up a hill ( apparently nowhere is flat round here) The pub is traditional and clean, the menu has a good range, Timothy Taylor landlord is their regular ale with a quest beer from abbey brewery. this was late so we had the cider which was very refreshing after the walk up the many hills. looked family run and everyone was friendly the dog got a cuddle and we enjoyed the Ploughman's.The food was lovely and a good price.Definitely worth the walk

Charming, recently refurbished village pub on the fringe of the Yorkshire Dales, just 3 miles from Whitby. Extremely dog friendly with 3 en-suite letting rooms. Great new menu using locally sourced ingredients cooked to order. Real open fire to cosy up in
Went and has a nice lunch in the rear beer garden and enjoyed it. It was friendly and welcoming with good service. So we booked in for dinner later that evening. It was dog friendly in the bar area. The menu was adequate and we had a nice meal. All the staff were pleasant.

The first time I went here I literally couldn't get in the door because it was so packed. My second attempt was much more successful. Small front bar, slightly larger back back. Decent ales on cask on the bar. Good atmosphere. Recommended.

We were very impressed by this little gastro pub just above Whitby. Pleasant, bright dining room and efficient staff. And a menu with a good range of choices. We had the leek, potato and cheddar soup and the lamp rump. Both excellent. As New Zealanders we think we're experts in lamb of course(!) and in all honesty the dish we were served was excellent; quality meat, perfectly cooked. If we lived in the area I suspect we'd become regulars.

Many many years since I last visited and indeed stayed here. Inside is just as welcoming, and the food has certainly gone up a notch since last visit. Beautifully cooked and presented to a very high standard. Service is fine despite being advised that every dish is freshly made and only the dessert took a long time but was worth waiting for. There are no menus as everything is displayed on the blackboards around the old fireplace. Choosing, even for a non meat eater like me, was a challenge as all the dishes sound delicious and several choices of fish. Would recommend booking as even though we arrived early on a Thursday evening all the tables were reserved or taken. After a drink outside in the beer garden we were told we could have a table inside as the people who had reserved were late. Is dog friendly.

Caravanning nearby, we popped in for Sunday carvery as recommended to us. Sat outside on one if the hottest days of the year. Sunday lunch was roast beef or pork. Amazing large slices of meat served with mash, roasties, mushy peas etc..A proper old fashioned Sunday lunch with fabulous gravy. Reasonably priced. My little boy said the beef was the best ever...! Wish we lived nearer.. but will return next time we are in area!

Country pub with a relaxed atmosphere serving outstanding food using the freshest local ingredients. Patrons may dine in the restaurant, bar or purpose built outdoor beer garden. We can cater for special occasions such as weddings, christening and parties
Stayed here in one of the new Shepherds Huts and enjoyed a great stay! Our first time glamping experience was definitely a success. Really well kitted out hut, comfy bed, sofa, TV and drinking facilities. All very clean and well maintained, with good facilities for toilet & shower. Full english breakfast was awesome! A quick taxi trip in/out of town if you donât like to walk. Thanks to Ben and his team for a great stay (and your mum was a superb breakfast host!) and the pub locals were extremely welcoming too!
