My husband and I had a rare opportunity to go out for a meal without the kids, so we chose to go to The Blundell Arms. We are so glad we did! It was busy in the restaurant, and we hadn't booked, but our greeter found us a table very quickly. He shared the menu and specials menu with us, knowledgeably, before taking our drinks orders. My husband asked what was on the taps, and the greeter/waiter confidently reeled off a great range and variety of lagers and ales. Our drinks (large glass of pinot grigio and a pint of Peroni) were served quickly, and were nice and cold. The food menu covers a wide range of tastes: pub classics such as cod and chips, chicken pie and lamb are offered alongside a range of steaks, a range of fish choices and lots of options on the 'chef's specialities' menu. Although at first glance, the menu may appear to be a bit pricey for a pub restaurant, it soon becomes evident that the food is well worth every penny you pay for it! My husband chose a sirloin steak with chips. The steak was full of flavour and was cooked exactly to his liking, as requested. His only criticism was that there weren't many chips. I ordered the seabass and scallops, served with pea and prawn risotto. It was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious! The scallops were cooked perfectly. I ate every last morsel! The atmosphere in this restaurant is fabulous. It's a rustic and cosy setting, with a nice country pub vibe. The perfect place for a relaxed meal and a few drinks with my husband: i could easily have curled up in one of the tub chairs by the fireplace, drinking a bottle of wine and settling in for the evening! The atmosphere is enhanced by the friendly service. Our waiters were efficient, knowledgeable and attentive. The manager, Matthew, was also present in the restaurant, and he was working alongside his team, taking food orders, checking on customers and ensuring tables were set. He wasn't 'waiting' on our table, but made a point of checking we were happy with everything. My husband and i thoroughly enjoyed our evening at The Blundell Arms and we'll definitely be returning.Hi sabreeThanks for the review & Kind words.I will pas on your comments to the rest of the team and we look forward to seeing you again soon.RegardsMatthew

Met some friends for lunch. Big menu choice. Serve breakfasts until 12. We chose off lunch menu. I had the halloumi kebab with chips. It was really tasty with the garlic dressing. The restaurant itself is clean, large and bright. Outdoor area but it was a bit too cold. Obviously very popular. Was constantly busy but the staff were great and very attentive. Large car park, clean toilets, lovely setting down a country lane. Shall be returning soon.

Afternoon tea in Curiosity is a lovely way to spend an hour or so with family and friends. Staff really friendly and great service. The afternoon tea was served in a quaint china tea set. There was a selection of finger sandwiches and wraps, a mini quiche tart, a macaron, profiterole, coffee walnut cake, lemon dessert and a warm scone with jam and cream. All presented very nicely and the food was tasty. We were also offered a jug of water for the table too. Staff very attentive. Only criticism was that for me personally, I would have liked slightly more savoury and less sweet but that's just my taste. The sandwiches and warm scones were very indulgent. I find the place a little dark for the daytime although the decor is nice and the place is very clean.. Overall it wouldn't stop me visiting again and its lovely to have this in Atherton. Thank you Curiosity!

Welcome to The Masons Arms, a cosy, family friendly, local pub in Atherton. Situated on Wigan Road, backing on to the countryside of Daisy Hill, get a glorious view of Winter Hill from our sun trap beer garden. Join us for some of our new fine cuisine, tr
We used to go and it was good value for money . Somebody got delusions of grandeur And though they was in Cheshire not Atherton and though they was a gastro pub and they put a few plaster boards up and though it was ok to almost double there prices . The food is ok nothing special and some areas are very dingey and you get forgot about . Itâs very expensive for what you get definitely cheaper and better places in the Leigh Atherton area only go here if there is no were else .

Stopped here for lunch today. The staff were welcoming and the menu looked interesting however the batter on the black pudding fritters was stodgy and think and the steak sandwich was soggy. I dont think I could recommend this pub to anyone.....Hello Iâm really sorry in regards to your experience which I believe was Tuesday lunch. The chef on duty that day Is no longer with us as it turned out he wasnât up to the standards we strive for. If you can send me a message to [email protected] Iâd love to offer you a meal for 2 people on the house to show you how good we really are. Thanks for taking the time to review our venue, I look forward to hearing from you soon.Paul Fenton

Family run country Pub and Restaurant serving pub lunches and evening dining in our A La Carte Restaurant all our food is cooked with local produce. Our food is all cooked from fresh by trained chefs.
Went to Bobs Smithy today for tea with family, booked a table for 4pm didnât get seated until 4-30 not to worried these things happenThe food was mediocre and the service was extremely slow, 4 of us had starters the children did not.at 6pm the children still hadnât had anything to eat, the roast beef dinner was very nice, my friend had salmon and was very disappointed with the size of the salmon,I had a vegetarian leek and mushroom pie, the pastry was that hard it shattered and the filling dry and burnt not at all goodThe decor was nice and it was cleanSorry wonât be going again Carol RIâm sorry to hear about your recent disappointment at Bobâs.We had an extremely busy service on that day and I do apologise about your wait on food. We are currently taking steps to resolve this issue.Iâm sorry that some of the food wasnât to your liking. If you would of told us when we checked back on your table it would of been rectified immediately.I hope you do give Bobâs another try as all our customers are very important to us.Kind regardsRobert NelsonGeneral Manager

Enthusiastic staff keen to settle you at a table and take your order. Asked about vegan options, staff were knowledgable and made appropriate recommendations. After generous main courses, we were still tempted to go for a sweet, and the apple pie and custard didn't disappoint. Not as close to the canal as some places in Leigh, but well worth the effort of a 5 minute walk.

This is a fairly regular haunt for us and we always enjoy our time there. We have eaten there in the past and it is decent enough but we generally just go for drinks. This latest visit was on a cold autumnal evening and we got a lovely table right by the open fire. This creates a lovely atmosphere to enjoy something from the good range of well priced and well kept drinks. The place keeps ticking over but is generally laid-back and relaxing place to spend an hour or so. Thereâs lots of free parking as well.
