The name Weligama, literally means "sandy village" which refers to the area's sandy sweep bay. It is approximately 144 kilometres (89 mi) south of Colombo and is situated at an elevation of 9 metres (30 ft) above the sea level.

Great food, shisha, environment. Very friendly owner and staff, best night life in Weligamaâºï¸We kept coming back here every other night during our stay in Weligama and felt like at home. Itâs a brand new restaurant with a cosy interior.We love vegan food and this place has amazing options like falafels, hummus, interesting salad options. Generous portions to enjoy. We visited Tides several times during our week stay at the Marriott. The bar has a very relaxed atmosphere and its a lovely place to chill over a drink. The ladies that waited on us were always so welcoming and friendly and eager to ensure everything was just right. We really enjoyed the Marriott burgers which were consistently excellent and the chick satay were delicious. I had some incredible cocktails and when a particular ingredient wasn't available the barman made up something similar which was really yummy. So, good barman too.
