The Mean Fiddler is a family run Irish bar and restaurant in the Theater district providing Irish/American food with a twist and a full craft cocktail menu. Our most popular dishes are our take on the classic Fish & Chip's, Shepherd's Pie, Fiddler Burger
Very good, fairly priced food and great serviceâand in the theater district, yet. If you are a couple or a foursome, you can walk right inâplenty of tables. We had traditional Irish meals, but the guacamole was excellent, and Iâm sure the Mexican fare was, as well. Our Irish waitress was adorable and attentive.

Blue Dog offers a handcrafted menu of authentic, delicious, and eclectic cuisine, comprised of local and organic ingredients, with a focus on new American fare. We stand for quality in our carefully crafted menu, made with farm-fresh healthy ingredients.
Food was mediocre, dim and noisy, wait staff more interested in each other than their clients. Expensive. In short, donât bother.

During our trips to New York we had always enjoyed popping into Beer Culture for a couple pints. Great selection and knowledgeable staff behind the bar. All this seems to have changed.Their selection of draft beers seems to be about half of what it had traditionally offered. And on our last visit the service was far from stellar. The bartender seemed more interested in talking about acupuncture with one person at the bar rather than making sure everyone was taken care of. When I inquired about the difference between two lagers on offer the response was: "there is no difference, they're both the same." Which of course begs the questions: why would a place calling itself "Beer Culture" have two items with the same taste profile and did the bartender really have no knowledge of what was on offer ?Every bar in the city has Guiness on tap. Why would Beer Culture do the same ? Even their food menu now appears to be very pedestrian. On a positive side, they still have two very large fridges stocked with a great selection of cans and bottles which you can consume on premises or purchase for take away.So the question exists: do they have new owners or did we just get very unlucky with who was working the night we visited. For beer afficianados you would likely be better taken care of with selection and service at either As Is Bar or Hellcat Annie's Tap Room which are both in Hells Kitchen.

American cocktail bar in a prohibition setting. Great food - and a kitchen open late (2:00AM) every night!
Four of us for a late lunch on a Friday. Place wasn't empty, but it wasn't jammed either. We got stuffed into a small table pressed up against two walls that was hard to get into and out of. Service was slower than we'd have expected given that it wasn't that busy, but she was friendly and helpful. The food was very good and the beer selection was broad, so it was generally a good stop. Next time, we'd ask for a different table.
