An award winning rustic-smart gastropub, serving the best in local produce and East Anglian ales. Friendly and efficient service perfectly compliment the incredible food served up by chef patron Ben Handley and his team. Norfolk favourites such as Brancas
Had heard that this was a bit special for Sunday lunch so being in the area for a weekend break decided to book a table (well in advance!).. Building has a lovely atmosphere and the place was buzzing, even though we were having a 'late' lunch (2.30ish). Staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was outstanding. Roast beef followed by the Raspberry Bakewell Cheesecake was to die for. Can't recommend highly enough - and the beers were great as well!

My husband booked the day before and told them we would like a nice table for his wifeâs birthday for lunch. When we arrived we were shown to probably the best table in the restaurant with a fantastic view over the marshes. Without exception the staff were brilliant and so was the service and food. After a conversation with Sandra on reception, who was lovely, we mentioned that we might like to go back another time and stay in one of their pet friendly rooms so that we could take our cocker spaniel. Without asking we were taken to one of the rooms to have a look at it to see if we thought it would be suitable. Needless to say we have booked a short break there in January. It was my birthday today and a card was waiting for me wishing me a happy birthday and dessert came out with a birthday message and an indoor firework! Such a nice gesture. The staff all went above and beyond what was expected. A truly rememberable birthday lunch. Thank you.Thank you for your lovely review, I am delighted that you enjoyed your birthday lunch and that Sandra looked after you so well with a tour of the room, a card and pyrotechnics! We look forward to welcoming you back in January. Kind RegardsRob

The Railway Inn Pub and Bed & Breakfast in Docking is a family owned free-house pub located in the picturesque village of Docking, just a few miles in-land from the scenic North Norfolk coast line.
Visited here today as a âniceâ end to our family holiday.....first of all I am pretty sure this restaurant must be writing their own reviews. We came for the Sunday carvery......if you want rock hard swede, and rock hard parsnips and meat with no juice and dry as a bone then this is your place......the waitress did not come over to check how our meal was at all.....when they came over to collect our plates we pointed out how appalling the food was the staff all came over and actually started arguing with us.....and told us we cleared our plates which we certainly did not. They actually accused us of lying! What a horrific experience with no ambience....an absolute dive. At no point was any reduction to to the meal offered.....thank god for spar up the road.....you know itâs bad when you take a trip to spar after a meal out.

The inside is very nicely decorated and a lot of thought has gone into this . Tables are nicely spaced out. Good menu with specials menu too. Staff are very helpful. Good size portions and prices are good value too.

Beautiful 17th Century Coaching Inn in the pretty village of Ringstead, only a few miles from the bustling North Norfolk Coast.
This time we went with friends for Sunday lunch, having been before on our own. My wife and our two friends had gerusalem artichoke and wild mushroom pie, very good pastry. I had the fish fillet. Greta food.

I have read the numerous very negative reviews here, and while I sympathise I can't agree. Ultimately it boils down to a mismatch between expectation and reality. This is clearly a great local, which looks beautiful and is well located hence gets plenty of tourist trade in the summer. I imagine business is much tougher going through the low season, yet the pub has to make it through. So it does the community stuff very well, but can't quite deliver on the menu it promises. My feeling is that the printed menu is the crux of the problem because it hints at gastropub levels of culinary excellence, when in fact it serves up (perfectly adequate) pub grub. We too experienced the very fast arrival of the food - the scampi was good but the lemon sole was dry and unseasoned, It's a style best described as homely. The food was generous and simple, but not skilfully prepared. It's what I would expect from a pub kitchen going full-tilt trying to satisfy everyone. I think the overly great variety of the menu (and its tone) don't help, and neither do the 1-star comments.I wouldn't travel here to eat, but I would eat here again. And, for good measure, I would drink here and relax any time.

We turned up without booking but were advised that the restaurant was fully booked. It clearly wasn't and also didn't fill up during the evening. We were told that we could eat in the bar, which is very badly lit other than one bright light that is somewhat dazzling.Food was simple and ok and reasonable valueInitial beer was flat but 2nd pint was betterFriendly serviceDear Graham P,Thank you for your review, i am glad that overall you enjoyed the meal, we do keep our prices on a par with other similar establishments in the local area.I hope you give us another try next time you are in the area.Kind RegardsMatthew JonesGeneral Manager

We visited the Orange Tree two nights running whilst staying in Thornham, we felt the first night on the Saturday, our meal was delicious, everything weâd hoped for. Smoky bbq ribs and vegetarian Tagine, and Good value for money. Itâs a shame that the Sunday was quite different, maybe itâs what we chose, nothing really wrong with the food but so overpriced for what it was. Prawn Cocktails at £9.75 which werenât anything special and quite watery. My husband chose Scampi from the specials menu at £15 and to be honest weâve had better at a Wetherspoons for £6! I chose the fish pie priced at £17.95 and that was it. No veg, just an overpriced pie, which tasted fine, but again we felt the price was far too much for what it was. We donât mind paying for a good meal but on this occasion felt we had poor value for money, which is a shame. We Understand the area of Thornham is expensive and they can charge these prices, but just on this occasion we werenât satisfied our £80 was money well spent for two courses and two glasses of wine and one gin. Weâd give it another chance though as we really like the Orange Tree, and Thornham.
