Things to do in Taupo
From the outside appearance to the internal decor and from the name to the menu, The Fox & Hounds does a really good job at being a typical suburban English pub in New Zealand. Suppose that there are enough Irish Bars to go round so why not? Good choice of beers and, although we did not eat, there were many locals having meals. Staff were prompt, pleasant and helpful. We enjoyed spending a couple of hours chilling in an English pub.
We only went for couple of drinks and play pool so weren't there long. The pool tables are good and the drinks cheap. I think beer and cider were $5 ish. In places by the poo table outside the floor is obviously rotten and there is a lot of give. The furniture is very orn and due for renovating. The man behind the bar was friendly, if bored. The view, especially at sunset is amazing.

The location is correct, but the pub appears to be called "Murphy's" now. Situated conveniently close to the bus stop, this little bar makes a convenient stop for a beer break whilst on the 40 minute stopover on the Intercity route between Wellington and Auckland. It is easy to find, on the main road just before reaching the lake, and offers cheaper beer than many other places as well as being a local rather than a bar chain. For jugs that is, primarily. Pints of ale are quite expensive, but a 2.5 pint jug is only about two dollars more. The reason for this pricing in inconsistency is unknown, but for a jug of ale this price is not too bad. The staff are not particularly friendly though, and they do not give out wifi to customers which seems rather stingy. Given the limitations imposed by the bus company, I suppose one has to make do, however.

A great night with fabulous pizza in very comfortable and pleasant restaurant. The staff were polite and cheerful, the owner was engaging and open in casual conversation. We had a great meal and a great time. We stopped here for lunch one day and sat outside. The weather was good and we had a great view of Lake Taupo. There was lots of choice on the menu and the service was very friendly. I really enjoyed my fish burger here.

My friend had the Pork which was a substantial meal and very tasty. My daughter had the Hawaiian Pizza also highly rated. However, my roast vegetable salad was filled with raw vegetables including raw lettuce, beetroot and carrot and I had to hunt for the roast vege!Tip: When ordering dessert, the cheesecake is an extremely small portion for $15.

We dropped in here for a meal and drinks on an overnighter in Taupo. A big range of beers available, friendly staff and food was good. I had to try the Char Siu Pork Belly as the accompaniments sounded like an odd mix. Asian pork with braised cabbage and Kumara rosti is a mix of cultures but actually works very well. The view over the lake is spectacular and not to be missed. Thanks for a great night

My wife and I had dinner both having bangers and mash which was delicious. It looks like an English pub but the feel isnât there. Bar area is tiny compared to the dining area. There was a large group drinking near the bar when we arrived and it was difficult to get past them.I also donât think the pokies complements the place.

We had a nice meal here. The atmosphere was excellent and cosy. I had the ribs and my wife had the beef and Guinness pie. Both meals were delicious. Our blonde Swedish waitress (sorry can't remember her name) was a delight. She recommended a good Pino and warned us that there could be a wait as a large table had ordered before us. Her customer service and warmth was really appreciated.
