Iâve never had a negative experience dinning at the Salmon! For purely selfish reasons the only thing i donât like is going out and up for the toilets! Great varied menu (although itâs tough to change from sticky chicken) huge portions, friendly staff and reasonably priced!

We are here as part of a stay during a Borders Abbey Way walk. The place is very popular and fortunately we had booked ahead. The venue looks a little tired but the beer was well kept and the food well cooked. Choose from the menu based on your tastes as some of the dishes cater for larger/richer appetites and many of the guests were sharing desserts. We ate steak and chips and fish cakes and chips. Both of which were tasty and well portioned and good value for money. Service was friendly and welcoming. Dogs were welcome in the bar. The clientele appeared younger than some of the other restaurants in the town. There is also a pool table and a TV. As some of the reviews say, it is pub food but good at its craft and popular with locals and tourists.

Weâd heard that this was a great place for a Carvery with choices of 3 meats, Beef, Turkey and Gammon. The meats were delicious, really well cooked and presented with attentive service.Between us we sampled all 3 meats and most of the âunlimitedâ vegetables. As stated the meats were very good, though the vegetables seem to have mostly been taken from the freezer. The cauliflower was unpleasantly wet and rather tough and overcooked, and the Brussels sprouts were only slightly better. I might have given 3 rather than 4 stars but I have to believe that this can be easily remedied so 4 stars is fair as the most important element, the meat, was very tasty. Finally, the meal for 2 of us with just one Diet Coke between us came to around £24.

Newly refurbished and extended, the Kings Arms is a former coaching inn with 11 bedrooms serving fantastic food, beer wines and spirits.
Just been in tonight for dinner staff are badly needing trained in customer service terrible attitude and service tonight. Food we received was ok but certainly wasnât worth what we paid. Soup was liquidized down and the obvious water down could have put the portion into a mug. Main coarse was a pasta dish lovely flavors but honestly a mug shot had more pasta in it no offer of any side dishes at all and wasnât cheap. Unfortunately I wonât ever go back and certainly would not recommend to anyone sorry. There is far better places in Melrose and better value for money.

Excellent roast beef with all the trimmings Sunday roast. The portion was huge but, as it was so delicious, I somehow managed to eat it all. Although not a huge menu, there's a very good choice including gluten free. You can watch your food being prepared through an open hatch into the busy kitchen. Friendly and efficient service. Tourists and locals enjoying the food and ambience. Easy parking and facilities very accessible

We were very hungry by the time we arrived in Melrose so we wanted somewhere reasonably priced that would serve quite quickly. There were a few people already in and waiting for food but they didnât have a long wait. We found the food prices reasonable but the drinks prices were more on the expensive side for what we ordered and have paid in most other places. The food was ok although nothing flash. Despite asking for the scampi and chips to be served with nothing else so âliterally just scampi and chips on a plate pleaseâ it still came with side salad and we were disappointed the chips werenât home made but the menu didnât say this so canât really complain about this. We were only passing through the area (I guess in the summer this is a lot of their trade) so not likely to visit again

We have been here a few times but I think we will just eat in the bar in future. Lacklustre menu with a disinterest to some extent from the waiting staff - you know the feeling, you are just another person having a meal! Very disappointing as this place with its great location for both locals (from miles around) and passing vehicles, could be something. Probably resting on its laurels.
