Not impressed! Waited quite awhile for service, and it was not friendly. Over charged for chairs. I'd recommend going next door to the hostel restaurant. They were cheaper and quite friendly!

Lovely little place to hang out, wait staff is very friendly and nice to talk to, we sat at the bar and met a wide array of people from all walks of life and all different countries. The drink menu is quite something with all different types of concoctions, all, and we did have them all, amazing. I stuck to the watermelon with tequila. The food is quite unique and a fabulous concept for San Juan and all the travellers on a budget that want something healthy. You get a paper, you pick your protein, your carb, brown rice, rice, noodles, the. You pick your sauce. It all comes out quite lovely and large on a clean white plate. Would I recommend, in a heartbeat

Some friends of our fished with the owners of this place and they cooked us up a spectacular meal with the fish they caught for a very reasonable price. They were great guys, friendly and very attentive. Would definitely go back!

My husband, son, and I regularly visit here, and Dave is amazing. My son and I are vegetarians (pescatarian; seafood only, no meat). Dave has made a special vegetarian chili for us to try and offered vegetarian Thanksgiving plates which were beyond flavorful. The drinks are great, too, the music is classic rock mix and never too loud.We will continue to be patrons for a long time to come!We have visited for just appetizers, late-night snacks, lunch, and dinner. Always a pleasant experience!

We went to the Black Monkey last Sunday afternoon our friends introduced us to Egga and Robert the owners and Chefs of the black monkey. What a magnificent location for a five star restaurant and boutique hotel. From the spicy martini, to the mojitos, the cold cervezas to the red wine, all while having a pre swim before dinner. I had the corned beef and cabbage with mashed potatoes and a tasty gravy.(Robert makes his corned beef) I also sampled the red snapper and lasagna. All meals very very good with exceptional presentation. Note save room for dessert as the key lime pie and cheesecake homemade by Egga is a must have. Great place to socialize with expats. The fries are to die for! Visited here several times during our week long stay, and all of the food was top notch. Juliette(owner) and Sarah are awesome bartenders, and the service from all of the wait staff was great. An awesome place to socialize in San Juan del Sur with expats and tourists. Repeat scale: definitely!!
