Le Trinquet is the oldest restaurant in Oloron managed by the NOEL's family for 28 years. We serve special dishes made by local cookers using historical recipes. Le trinquet finds its name in the adjoining room of "La pelote basque" that you will be able
We ate here twice, the second time because most of Oloron was closed on the last Wednesday night of September.First time we ate there we had the Autumn Menu - my husband ordered the faux fillet au point (and instead of medium/rare it was cold and fairly raw), my fish was well cooked and everything else was lovely. The service was not very welcoming and something in that area was missing - a friendliness maybeThe second time we went we were not able to sit outside - it was still warm for us, but obviously too cold for the French! We also went from the main menu, and it was slightly more expensive than other places, but the food was very good and tasty and plenty of it (apart from the Jambon starter which still had the inedible rind on it)Would go there again, but would not be first choice if free choice!

This cafe only serves at lunchtime and you need to book as the tables are usually full. Jolly tablecloths and proper cloth napkins are a great touch. The menu is 3 choices on each course. They have a surprisingly extensive wine list as well as Saint Mont wine by pichet very reasonably priced. The starter was good, but main was salmon with piperade ( basque ratatouille)- the fish was overcooked and I don;t think oily fish worked with the piperade- maybe should have tried something else. The pannacotta dessert was nice. Paying separately for each course works out much dearer, but 3 course option is 13.50euros. Portions are quite small. Will try again would have been 5 stars, but let down by main.
