The Guardian is an accesible Irish pub on a beautiful location, the Groest in Hilversum with a sunny terrace, great food, drinks and loads of diffrent beers!
This used to be our regular. Fantastic interior, great beers, great food and nice staff, more than enough space to sit outside and people watch. Read: used to be.Unfortunately in the recent months, it's all gone down the drain. Beers are not available, the menu is very limited. There are so many families there in the weekend that you'd think they serve some child-friendly dishes, right? Nah, they don't. French fries are a whooping 3 euros and so is the apple sauce (I mean, really?). All dishes are served without fries etc., so don't think you can get away with a chicken sate for 10 Euros or a steak for 11/19 Euros (150g/300g). Warm Nachos (even though they are nice - with salsa, guacamole and sour cream) are also 10. Beers (pints) are about 5,50, it's cheaper to drink in London.Get your act together and we might come back.

If you are looking for a good value food in traditional dutch 'brown cafe' surroundings look no further. The Cartouche provides good quality, low priced meals with a large selection of Belgian Beers. The service is friendly and fast but don't expect haute cuisine. The menu never really changes, but what they do, they do well. If you arrive early its suitable for children, however a bit later it turns into a busy bar. Great for meeting with friends or colleagues for an informal meet up

Conveniently situated in the centre of mediatown Hilversum. Close to the trainstation, all the TV & Radiostations, Nike Europe HQ and the mayor hotels. The restaurant is Grill based, with good quality fish and meat. Dry Aged meat is a real specialty in th
Had been with friends. Nice place to visit, on week-ends. Except for the very loud music, (during evening hours), the rest is all fine. They have variety of drinks to offer on their menu, even for non-alcoholics as well as for people who want to eat. They even have light snacks on the menu. Open until late in the night, around 03:00 or 04:00. Especially from Thursday to Saturday! The staff does not let you stay with empty glasses for long.. ;-) They just keep checking out if they have an order to take... But, friendly :-)

Went here in Winter. Had the rudest service I've ever had anywhere....a group chatting away with the bar maid, made us feel we where interrupting the most important conversation of their combined lives. The bar maid gave her best eye rolling performance as she had to get drinks for us. I'm not sure if it was because where were not locals - but I've never been so rudely served - anywhere. I'm avoiding the place.

Cafe de Kaars is a great restaurant (and I am actually a bit surprised there are not more reviews) serving original and very tasty food (and also offering live concerts some Fridays and Saturdays). Each month they have a different special all you can eat dish (we went twice in September for the spare ribs that are delicious). Also the salads are very good, and the dishes come served with tasty french fries. The staff is extremely friendly, always smiling and accomodating to every need.Highly recommend.

We stopped here during a long cycle ride around the Utrecht area. The Cafe/Pub is a lovely little place that serves traditional Dutch fare at good prices. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. I ordered lunch and was thoroughly impressed by the quality and timeliness of the food.Interestingly, many of the table tops are covered in thick carpet. It seems strange to me but may be a local tradition. That aside, if you need a decent pub lunch whilst out and about this is just what you need. Thank you to the staff who were polite and efficient.
