Kyle of Lochalsh (from the Scottish Gaelic Caol Loch Aillse, "strait of the foaming loch") is a village on the northwest coast of Scotland, 63 miles (100 km) west of Inverness. It is located on the Lochalsh peninsula, at the entrance to Loch Alsh, opposite the village of Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye. A ferry used to connect the two villages until it was replaced by the Skye Bridge, about a mile (2 km) to the west, in 1995.

Scottish local ales, malt whiskies & wine After a long day in the hills or on the water, why not unwind in the relaxed atmosphere of one of our traditional bars or sitting rooms. The Kintail Bar, lively and full of visitors and locals, you can compare not
We were staying at Kintail Lodge in a group of 10 and had chosen to eat our Friday evening meal together at the Bar - good choice. There are good beers, a variety of wines and good choice of food on the menu. As a larger group, the manageress looked after the timing of our meal personally - with good humour. Service was prompt and friendly - I believe that we all enjoyed what we ordered and had plenty to eat. Some of us had no room left for pudding but enjoyed a coffee while the others tucked in to third course.

We saw the restaurant sign at the hotel entrance and sat in the area close to the bar and waited for ages at empty tables - no cutlery, etc. Turned out that the only menu was the board at the bar. The most expensive food for what it was that I recollect anywhere, however it was good if not fresh home cooking. We helped ourselves to cutlery, etc and eventually found the salt! You will need to be a fan of plastic flowers as they obstruct the view. The hotel's central heating does not seem to work and it was not warm despite the tiny best efforts of a small electric heater! The view hardly enhanced by the rusting memorial to the mine laying squadron, the table umbrellas that had been left out all winter and the rusting broken chain railing. The hotel burns its rubbish near by.

This was our first visit to Glenelg for a holiday, and the Glenelg Inn is a gem in the middle of this wonderful community. We felt very welcome, even though there were lots of locals in the bar, and the staff were really friendly and helpful too. We were lucky to be there for two different live music events, both of them were excellent. And the food! Wow! We ate at the Inn for lunch and dinner a few times during our holiday, and it was quite simply superb every time. Great choices for vegetarians and vegans, which can be unusual in a local pub. Good to see local ingredients used. Highly recommended.

Booked a table for a family celebration service wasn't great food very average. Venison very chewy, scollops tiny, pizzas with pre-made base, dressed crab salad just handful of leaves with what looked like pre-bought dressed crab thrown on the side. Overall effort and presentation could be better and staff a little more organised and friendlier. Not what I expected from such a lovely setting very disappointing with £130 bill. Should have gone further up the road to the other place.
