Found the actor in Henley while looking for somewhere to have lunch. What a find. Great British menu of traditional main and dessert dishes at sensible prices. I ordered rabbit in Dijon mustard sauce and my wife lamb shank, absolutely beautiful, cooked to perfection. The previous night we had dined in a Marco Pierre White restaurant and this food was so much better, it put Marcos food to shame. We both had apple crumble custard and again great cooking. We were served well in a moderately busy part of the day. My wife and I highly recommend this pub.Thank you very much for your kind review, and we are loving the comparison :-)

Visited on a Tuesday evening and very quiet. Service ok.Both had starter of crosstini with mushroons and stillton- edible but bread barely toasted and stilton none existent.Lasagne special as mains. Came out immediately after our starter plates cleared and clearly microwaved. We both had to send back to reheat as cold, mine still came back lukewarm and garlic bread barely coooked.Lasagne edible just but completely tasteless and without any flavour or seasoning- left most of mine.Bill of £64! for 2 starters, 2 mains and 2 drinks.Very bad expensive pub grub. Should have known the writing was on the wall when an adjacent table ordered sausage and mash and they were told there was no mash left!My advice would be go somewhere else, anywhere but not here.So disappointed, feel mugged.

From Henley-on-Thames take a short trip through the countryside, into the woods at Witheridge hill and you will find the warm picturesque 17th century pub, the Rising Sun. There is a large sunny garden at the front of the pub surrounded by stunning woodla
Met family for lunch here on Wednesday and was looking forward to some lovely food. The pub is in a lovely location, although not particularly well signposted, but we found it eventually. We were greeted by friendly staff and the atmosphere was quiet, but charming. For starters, my three companions ordered the calamari and I had the prawn and crayfish tail cocktail. Mine was delicious and I'm assured that the calamari was too. It was certainly all very fresh. For the main course, we ordered the lemon and herb chicken, the burger, the lamb curry and steak and ale pie.Aside from it seeming to take a long time to be served, the curry had bones in it, which is fine, but they'd obviously broken up and were in little bits, scattered throughout, so that I had to be quite watchful what I put in mouth in order to ensure I didn't risk a tooth.Whilst the curry was tasty and a good portion size, with naan bread and poppadoms, the bone issue put me off somewhat. However, everyone else's food looked good and was eaten, with no complaints. However, I think there are better eateries in the area.Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed the majority of your food and as you said all of our food is cooked fresh and therefore can sometimes take a short while. The current âcurry of the dayâ is a Lamb Gosht which is traditionally served on the bone. I am sorry you found that awkward to eat and we will take your feedback on board. Thanks again.

Ok, room at back, 10of us. Unfortunately adjacent tooutside area and smoke from smokers wafted in. Food was good, however hand cooked chips not so. Chips donât have skin on, and should be crispy and delicious, unfortunately yours were not. Steak cooked as required. Staff friendly and accommodating.

This was my first time at The Maltster's Arms and it was a pleasant pub with flavorful food. I had a spicy marinaded chicken with a bean salad, mango salsa and a honey glaze which was tasty followed by a Scottish dessert called Cranachan which included whipped cream, raspberries, oatmeal and honey was absolutely delectable and sweet! My mother enjoyed her sea bass and her chocolate and hazelnut terrine! The bar staff were absolutely friendly and considerate all the way! The service was spot on and I will return to this Brakspear pub again!

Went here for an evening meal while walking the Thames Path.Decor is a little dated with fruit machines and snooker table quite prominent. However, the welcome we got was really friendly and the food was excellent. We had a shared starter which was delicious and plentiful.I then had homemade fish cakes which were fab and my husband had fish and chips which again was excellent. We felt really well looked after and you couldn't fault the food for value and quality.Well worth a visit.Hi OxonLioness . So glad you decided to choose us for your evening meal. Hope you enjoyed your walk . Thanks for your review, we are a very friendly pub with traditional pub facilities, darts , pool, BT and Sky sports. Thanks

Went here the other night for our 4th wedding anniversary and came away so glad we did, it was the perfect night, food and service for our special occasion. The service as you would expect is exemplary and the food....wow is all we could say. Had the scotch egg starter and my wife had mushrooms on toast which were exceptional and then had a chateaubriand to share with sides of honey roast carrots, triple cooked chips and buttered greens with Parmesan and bacon. It was amazing to look at and tasted even better - seriously one of the best meals out we have had. We were so full we couldnât manage pudding but the staff surprised us by bringing out a little brownie and happy anniversary plate complete with sparkler which was a lovely surprise and touch by the venue. Anthony worrell Thompson came out also towards the end of the night to greet everyone in his chef whites which again was nice to see that he was in the kitchen making what is beautiful food. I would say this place isnât the cheapest but you do get what you pay for and it was worth every single penny. Will definitely be back and would highly highly recommend.
