We were keen to try this pub after it reopened in the summer and it was a pleasant meal, not outstanding just good pub food and friendly service. Didnât see the specials board until we were leaving and wondered why there was a lack of fish on the main menu - would have tried the Mussels or fish of the day and probably had a better experience Iâm sure. Will go back with friends and try the specials next time

After visiting another pub in Yarmouth attempting to purchase a quick bite, with my coeliac husband, we were beginning to despair. Thank heavens for "The Kings Head" - what a discovery, and marvellous choice of gluten free cusine. We opted for the delicious homemade broccoli and stilton soup, served with a baguette AND gluten free bread for my husband. The roaring log fire was welcoming and the staff so friendly. We look forward to returning when we're next in Yarmoutth.

The Sun Inn Is A 600 Year-Old Hostelry Set In Beautiful Countryside On The South West Coast Of The Isle Of Wight.Serving Real Ales and Home cooked, locally sourced foods, it is a perfect stop off for families and those on a trip round the West WightRegula
A beautifully located character pub let down by a poor quality steak and ale pie. The âspecials boardâ pie arrived and the crust was dry, hard and stale tasting. The small quantity of meat inside was dry, tough and gristly. I complained to the waitress who apologised for its condition but said that unfortunately it was the last pie in the pub which was probably fortuitous. Sadly the kitchen missed an opportunity to redeem themselves by not coming out to enquire about my complaint, so the wholesaler supplying the pies will probably continue to do so. To their credit they did not quibble about not charging me for the meal.I would like to thank you for your review and can only apologies that your experience wasn't to the standard you expected. The pies are made in-house at the pub and not supplier bought as stated. Its not also common practise for a chef to come and apologise for the meal especially at peak times. We pride ourselves on providing good food and we can only apologise that we didn't hit the mark on this occasion. We hope that you come back and try our menu again and see that this is not a common occurrence. Thanks Rob

Came over to the island for a few days last minute, previously ate at the Sun Inn twice in our visit in May. We returned and were not disappointed. Plenty of gluten free choices on offer. Separate menu, special board is clearly marked. They have good grasp of cross contamination. I had the homemade cottage pie, but other choices include burgers, chips and onion rings. This is a typical island county pub so donât expect grand surroundings but the food is wonderful and the welcome is warm. Highly recommend

We were greeted by a very friendly and funny barman. We ordered dinner, which was delicious, and were looked after by a lovely waitress. We didnât need pudding but they were too tempting to resist! Am glad we didnât resist as they too were delicious. The landlord chatted to us and recommended a few places to visit. Overall an excellent evening. Thank you!

Unfortunately since the re opening this pub has gone downhill fast, lack of atmosphere and warmth (even in the summer).Inexperienced staff are not interested in customers or creating any atmosphere or engaging in conversation.Used to be a great pub for locals and visitors but think it will be empty through the winter - locals have migrated elsewhere in search of friendly faces.

Youâll spot this pub as you walk from the ferry terminal towards The Square. Initial looks can be deceiving as the interior is a mishmash of design which really doesnât gel (and as for the toilets.....) outside to rear is a large beer garden and bar shack which I guess is open during summer months. However, thereâs a decent range of ales on offer and we certainly enjoyed our lunchtime meals.Thank you. We are embarking on a full re furb in January so hope you will return to see the changes! The Bugle Team.

The owners of our accommodation recommended the Highdown and it is an easy walk from Freshwater Bay.We found a lovely pub with a strong community open and friendly to tourists. Our food was lovely, we had three different beers two of which were excellent, the other was not to my taste.Dear Michelle, than you for your 4 Star Review, we are so glad that you enjoyed your meals here, we do have a strong community here that support us and the Holidaymakers that come here as well are all welcomed by us and all the Locals, we do have a varied supply of Beers here and we try to cater for everyone, we look forward to seeing you again in the future when you come over to the Isle of Wight again.

A traditional country pub with flag stone floors and log fire, serving locally sourced food . The pub has its own garden which produces fresh vegetables and herbs all year round. Four real ales are available as well as an extensive wine list.
Firstly this pub is in a great location ( especially if you are following the old railway track from Yarmouth to Freshwater). The pub is well presented with a good range of drinks and food--the lunch time sandwiches are particularly good with great chips. However what lets it down is the service. On the first visit there was only one person behind the bar and although very friendly was clearly under a great deal of pressure. The second visit a coffee that was ordered took me 3 times to ask where it wasA little sad because a great little pub with some good food
