Find out what Pub restaurants to try in Fowey. Fowey (/ˈfɔɪ/ ( listen) FOY; Cornish: Fowydh, meaning 'Beech Trees') is a small town, civil parish and cargo port at the mouth of the River Fowey in south Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The town has been in existence since before 1300; the estuary of the River Fowey forms a natural harbour which enabled the town to become an important trading centre. Privateers also made use of the sheltered harbourage. The Lostwithiel and Fowey Railway brought China clay here for export.

We are a small community pub, located in the quaint Village of Golant on the banks of the Stunning Fowey River. We have a traditional pub menu that includes homemade dishes, using local produce. We also have a well stocked bar with regularly changing gues
We set off with interest to the estuary, wondering what to expect. Down the narrow lane with some stops required at passing points. This place is indeed a hidden gem. Some good beers and very friendly staff. Great food served from a good sized menu, and pretty good value. And they can cater for large parties it seems - a wedding reception the previous day and gazebo still present. Check the tides and don't get stuck ! It was interesting to see the water gradually move in and overtop the road, at some speed aswell. It was a very pleasant afternoon / evening and I feel privileged by the experience.Hi Peter Thank you for visiting us and for writing this lovely review. We are really glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. We love the name of your review as you are quite right, it is an interesting drive down to the pub from the main road, but well worth it. The marquee is up in the garden throughout the summer, just incase British weather decides to be it's unpredictable self, however we do do the odd function in there. Your last comment about feeling privileged by the experience really made my day. It was a privilege to have you hear. We look forward to seeing you again soon.Kind regardsNick and The Crew

We had dinner here twice during our week at nearby accommodation. On both occasions I had the mussels starter and they were simply the largest juiciest best mussels I have ever had, and a substantial serving of them too. The staff were friendly and chatty and helpful (especially fitting us in after we abandoned the neighbouring Sams-on-the-beach). I've marked them down one notch because their main courses are too large : everybody in a party of 8 failed to finish them.

We've never eaten here but have always found the landlord warm and welcoming and the locals charming and friendly. We always aim to come in to enjoy a drink and banter whenever we're in Polruan. It doesn't have any harbourside views but is a good locals tavern with a fine selection of drinks and entertaining listening to local gossip.Located just a short stroll, one street back from the harbour.

After living in Fowey for 15 years we visited the Old Ferry in for the first time. It is simply stunning in an old world charm and sevice way. The food was wonderful the team were friendly and the Terrace and dining rooms are stunning. We certainly won't be waiting another 15 years to visit again!

We visited The Ship today for Sunday lunch. I had emailed the pub a couple of weeks before to enquire about the price which was quoted to me as between £9.95-£10.95. I thought that this was a reasonable price so booked for my husband and myself. When we arrived today we wanted to order a couple of drinks and put them on a tab with our meals. We were informed that we could do this, but I would have to hand over my debit card which would then be kept in the till until we were ready to pay the bill at the end of our meal. I refused to do this and in fact I was not alone in doing so, as I heard several other diners refuse to do this as well when asked by the staff. Surely the management can come up with a far better solution to this current method!?We paid for the drinks, picked up the menus and went to our table. The position of the table was great as we had a window view and there was a beautiful stained glass window in the restaurant which was stunning! We read the menus and the Sunday lunch main course was actually £13! (a lot different to what I was originally quoted not even two weeks previously), but as we already had drinks and were hungry we decided to order anyway. We both ordered roast beef which we had to pay for at the time of ordering and this arrived in good time but we then spent several minutes looking at our meals whilst the waitress went off to get our cutlery. The meal was ok but weâve had much better for a lot less money. There was just one slice of meat each which we thought was poor and the vegetables were lukewarm (probably because we had to wait for our cutlery!)We felt that we didnât receive value for money and that we had been misled by whoever had quoted a lower price to us beforehand, so we will not be returning!HiSorry you were quoted a different price we change the menu every week so prices do vary from week to week Most establishments take a card for tabs because some people walk out with out paying either on purpose or by mistake James

Told no food. That was the end of conversation from the bar man. There were no tables to sit at other than a stool even though there were no other people inside the pub.We were looking for a quick meal after a long walk and would have finished long before the reservations arrived but it was immediately apparent wasn't even worth asking. Someone came and asked for takeaway fish and chips - might have been nice if the barman mentioned that possibility when he said 'no food'.

A great pub in the heart of Fowey serving wonderful food. We were recommended by locals earlier in the day for the food and it didnât disappoint. The seafood salad was amazing which included dressed crab, prawns and smoked salmon, my wife had the biggest bowl of fresh mussels with a very tasty white wine & garlic sauce. Lovely atmosphere in a traditional pub, mixture of locals at the bar with their dogs and visitors like us. For real ale fans the beer is very well kept, can recommend the St Austell Proper Job
