The town is 48 miles from London and 10 miles from Canterbury and lies next to the Swale, a strip of sea separating mainland Kent from the Isle of Sheppey in the Thames Estuary. It is close to the A2, which follows an ancient British trackway which was used by the Romans and the Anglo-Saxons, and known as Watling Street. The Faversham name is of Latin via Old English origin, meaning "the metal-worker's village".

We arrived here by chance, as we had booked a meal and theatre tickets in Canterbury, but we had car trouble and had to terminate our journey and wait for the RAC. We parked up and went for a meal and a drink, whilst we waited. This is obviously a popular place with locals and the staff are very friendly. We had great food, in a great atmosphere, and it was very cosy in the pub.We will call here again when we are in the area, it was a bit of a find.Thanks very much for your lovely review I remember you well and I hope you got your car sorted out and back on the road so you can come again

Popped in for a bite to eat and a beer after going around the nearby shops by the quayside wharf. Nice traditional looking pub inside and out and fairly comfortable.Beer excellent. Food... Me: fish & chips... Wife: sausage & mash. Good quality pub grub with excellent and friendly service. Good value too.Nicely situated, only 6 or 7 minute walk if you've got tired legs after doing the shopping in town. Would definitely keep in mind if I'm in Faversham again...

Really delicious meal, lovely fresh guacamole with nachos and cheesy garlic bread, tasty and crisp . The chilli pot was amazing, deep and rich and full of flavour with lovely accompaniments. The chicken Veracruz was really good too - had an excellent Margarita and good service with nice staff.We will be back - thank you :0

We visited this midweek when it was fairly quiet. Friendly service and atmosphere. I had the chicken supreme with a delicious vegetable broth and succulent vegetables, bean, peas etc. It was particularly delicious and healthy. We would go again if we were in the area.

Had dinner here whilst staying at Hempstead house(see separate review) It's a lovely old pub/log fire /lovely gentle background music(Bobby vinton/everly brothers /dionne Warwick you get tge picture) We started, with warm bread olives and dip The bread was fresh from oven and olives proper ones (kalamarta probably) partner had squid and, whitebait. I had the mussels in ale both very nice. Main course was stuffed chix breast and lamb and mint suet pudding with mash and veg. All cooked perfectly and the accompanying gravy was properly reduced and flavoured no bisto here!! Finished with spotted dick and custard. The waitress was extremely friendly and competent I thoroughly recommend here for a high quality reasonably priced dinner in lovely surroundings. And will be back for sure

What a great find, The Red Lion on the Ashford Road in Badlesmere advertises that their kitchen is totally gluten free. What a joy to think that you can eat anything from their menu without having to worry.We had the tempura vegetables with sweet and sour sauce and the Lion burger, both were excellent, followed by the homemade ginger cheesecake.The hosts were wonderful, the service was great and the pub is dog friendly. They have a fantastic outdoor eating area and a play area for the little ones in the garden.If you are travelling from Faversham along the A251 Ashford Road, stop at The Red Lion in Badlesmere, we will certainly visit again.

We visited with friends last Sunday for lunch and had yet another wonderful dining experience. The service was excellent, as always, and the three course set lunch superb value. We all enjoyed our three courses and Ruyman and Sarah were attentive and very efficient, as always. We cannot fault this local gastro pub and look forward to visiting again soon.

Wish it was the first night as would be returning to the Plough. Tucked away up winding roads then the green opens up before you with the Plough proudly at the head. Friendly welcome from team and locals alike. A pub where you can get a drink or have food, not like a lot these days where you are expected to eat but we chose to eat and food excellent. Very good atmosphere full of chatter and laughter. All beers/ ciders and fruit juices were from Kent, a true Kentish pub Thank you for posting your review, we are delighted to hear you have discovered us and enjoyed your experience with us. Great atmosphere, good food, good service made for an enjoyable evening. We had dinner inside, where it was a bit warm, but moved outside for dessert. Try the outside terrace on a summer evening.We are very glad you enjoyed your experience with us and hope you return.

Birthday dinner for 5. We'd heard some good things locally about The Dove and decided to give it a try. Service excellent, food superb, a varied and wonderfully in crafted menu. Presentation was really good, attention to detail very evident. It's in a Sheps pub so draught beer requires caution. Plenty of choice otherwise and an excellent wine list, many available by the glass. Highly recommended.
