Chippenham is a large historic market town in northwest Wiltshire, England. It lies 20 miles east of Bristol, 86 miles west of London and 4 miles west of The Cotswolds AONB. The town was established on a crossing of the River Avon and some form of settlement is believed to have existed there since before Roman times. It was a royal vill, and probably a royal hunting lodge, under Alfred the Great. The town continued to grow when Great Western Railway arrived in 1841; it is now a major commuter town.

We visited Colerne (after discovering my ancestors hailed from there) and happened upon this ancient pub and decided to stop for lunch. Wow! The meals we had were amazing ! At just £5 each we expected dinky little portions - instead we were served mountains of delicious, hot, proper home cooked food ! Absolutely incredible value for money. My portion of curry was delicious and surely big enough to feed two ! The service was lovely, warm and welcoming. Thank you Fox and Hounds - great hospitality! We will be back !

Superior Chinese, Szechuan & Authentic Chinese Cuisine within a fully air conditioned restaurant near the heart of Wiltshire market town, Chippenham.
Have eaten in the restaurant before and had an enjoyable meal. Ordered take away this evening, which was just horrible...firstly the chips were well and truly overcooked (most probably reheated from days ago judging by their taste and appearance). We also ordered sweet and sour chicken balls which came WITHOUT sweet and sour sauce, along with thoroughly dried out lemon chicken...just cannot believe how awful the food was. Went in the bin. Absolutely vile is probably a fair description. Won't be returning.

Upon the recommendation of a business colleague, we recently visited The Pheasant for the first time, arriving just after 6pm midweek. We had no trouble parking in the large car park and upon entering were shown to table close to the Carvery. The waitress quickly brought our drinks to the table and as Mrs FB2000 ordered Sausage and Mash from the a la carte menu, I was advised by the waitress she would let me know just before it was going to be served so I could go and get my carvery and have us both eat at the same time. About twenty minutes later I got the nod to visit the carvery. In the meantime the pub had filled up considerably, so when I got to the counter, some of the vegetable pots were empty or just had a few remains at the bottom. As a result the beef was pretty good but the veg disappointing. Mrs FB2000 reported her meal to be good.By the time we were eating, the area of the pub around us was very noisy, mostly with large family groups, and it more resembled a cafeteria rather than a restaurant, no doubt all attracted by the low price of the Carvery. In hindsight, we probably should have insisted on sitting in the bar, or as far away as possible from the carvery.I canât see us returning to The Pheasant

We visited here for lunch on 22 April whilst out on our tandem. It was not busy at the time and we had the whole of the beer garden to ourselves. We were warmly welcomed as we placed our food and drinks order. Our brie and cranberry sandwiches were brought out to us at our table. I know you canât really get this sort of food wrong, but you can get it so right. This was really good fayre. The bread was incredibly fresh and the cheese rich and creamy. We would have no hesitation in recommending this place to anyone. Thank you so much for your review, we are glad you enjoyed our Beer Garden and the sandwiches. Do visit us again.

First visit here and it was lovely. Food was brilliant, nice out door area and restaurant. When we first went in I thought it was quite small but then when the waitress told us about the restaurant out the back I was pleasantly surprised with how big it was and itâs nice decoration

Dropped in on the off chance that we might grab something to eat on a late Sunday afternoon, we were greeted by the most accommodating landlord who quite simply couldn't do enough for us.Both opted for the roast beef, an amazing portion size, a great selection of accompanying vegetables, generous with the beef and a special mention for the cauliflower cheese which was luscious. Unfortunately we didn't leave any room for dessert so will have to return one day.Amazing value for money, most definitely recommended.

A traditional and privately owned village inn offering home cooked fayre, an excellent range of well kept real ales and ciders, free wireless broadband, quality en-suite Bed and Breakfast, seasonal open log fire and a warm and friendly welcome.Winner - Ch
Excellent! Called late in the day (4:30) for 8pm booking table for 2 and no problem. Lovely cosy atmosphere and friendly bar staff. Food cooked fresh to order so expecting a wait as quite busy but was out within a decent time. Had the pigeon to start and duck for main, my friend had the Brie to start and lamb shank (specials board) and all dishes were extremely nice. Well presented and cooked beautifully. How lovely to hear that you enjoyed your meals with us earlier this week - thank you for visiting and for posting a review which is much appreciated and does go a long way towards making all of the hard work worthwhile. Your compliments have been passed on to our wonderful team here and we hope to welcome you again before long.

Had lunch with my wife here after a pleasant morning exploring the local countryside. We both opted for the cheese and stilton dumplings with chilli dip to start and the belly pork as mains. The cheese dumplings were delicious, but we both decided that the belly pork was a little disappointing. We were expecting some crunchy crackling, but it was actually very rubber like and soft. The accompanying veg was good, but the upgrade of dauphinoise potatoes from bubble and squeak was a tad expensive at £4. The local Wadworth 6x beer was nicely kept and the staff friendly with fast service. We both decided we'd eat here again when in the area though.

Visited the Foxham Inn for the second time recently - the first being some 2/3 years ago. It certainly did not disappoint. Although the menu was fairly restricted and unadventurous the contents were delicious. We started with all the 'Nibbles' - olives, home-made bread and whitebait. The alter was cooked to perfection and the bread very good. We then went straight to the main menu with pork belly, gnocchi and ratatouille and steak & kidney pie, chips and peas. Again cooked to perfection and very generous helpings. After that there was no room for desserts but we did have coffee with home made apricot biscuits which were again excellent. Really an excellent experience with friendly and helpful service. Even the taped music from the 50s and 60s fitted the bill very well!

Bar/Restaurant with beautiful secluded beer garden in the centre of Chippenham serving lunches and evening meals. Award winning Sunday lunch
Meeting friends for lunch is always such a super occasion, adding outstanding food raises it to a whole new level. The Gladstone Arms is a perfect venue for such an event. We all had fabulous food, the sweet chilli chicken & bacon salad was fresh, tasty, varied and filling....excellent quality ingredients all cooked by a chef with a magical touch. Others loved their Halloumi salad and leek tart respectively, this was accompanied by a well priced, tasty bottle of rose. The desert menu was then produced, against better judgement the white chocolate & raspberry brioche bread & butter pudding and custard was chosen.....this huge delightful desert was out of this world....but it defeated me!! Luckily the wonderful owner, Leighton packaged the remains for me to enjoy all over again later on...I will certainly order this again and again. This lovely, well run, popular pub is a real âmust to visitâ if in the area..
