A higgledy piggedly quirky building with a rustic feel .Freddie dog made welcome too .Generous portions , freshly cooked . Although we didnât sample them the home made pizzas looked amazing .Good selection on the menu including great seafood platter , local butchers burger , gammon etc Generous portions and unhurried service .Would imagine itâs very busy in the season but plenty of outsider seating to relieve pressure on the rooms inside

Visited The Crown on Saturday, the 10th of August and had a fantastic meal! The oysters were to die for â I have never had such beautiful oysters before. All of the other dishes were served beautifully and the produce was top quality. The service for a table of 10 was absolutely excellent and our waitress was friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant a quiet buzz that enabled you to chat but know that you were in a popular place.Definitely worth a visit and one of the best places in this location.

As with so many things, there seems to be a standard formula for pubs now, paint it with some subdued tones, alter the name slightly to make it more jaunty eg 'The Sailor' becomes the 'The Jolly Sailor', print everything to look like blackboards, add a conservatory (but call it an Orangery), locally source your food, triple the price and add some staff for whom smiling is against their human rights and stuff. If that model is your comfort zone you won't like The Bowling Green. Its what you might call traditional in decor, a lot of brown furniture and the ceiling is cream with a touch of nicotine - but don't let that put you off. It doesn't smell of smoke, it doesn't smell of beer, its clean and tidy and therefore bypasses all those reasons the clone pubs mentioned above killed off the drinkers dens of the past. It looks classic but serves a fine and tasty menu at a reasonable price, has a good range of spirits and beers and has a secret weapon in the form of the staff. They're like the landladies of the past that put the life and soul into the establishment, friendly, welcoming, full of personality. Laughing at the punters terrible jokes, cheerily wiping up the spills, its like a glimpse into the ideal pub of yesterday but without the smoke, menu limited to pork scratchings (or 'Big D' nuts) and old bloke staring at you from the corner of the bar whilst muttering to himself.Well done The Bowling Green for being unpretentious and genuine, keep it up.

We have been coming here weekly for many years (I said that in 2013 - we still are). It is the perfect pub in our opinion (and we have tried many!). It is a good local for a drink, relaxed enough for a casual meal and nice enough for a special occasion. We have had a few functions here, most recently afternoon tea for a Silver Wedding, with delicious and plentiful food and excellent service.Visitors will find it friendly and welcoming. There is a varied menu including local game, fish, mussels and crab. Good wines, and local beer direct from the barrel. I shouldn't be posting this, I don't want it to be too busy....

We turned up without booking but were advised that the restaurant was fully booked. It clearly wasn't and also didn't fill up during the evening. We were told that we could eat in the bar, which is very badly lit other than one bright light that is somewhat dazzling.Food was simple and ok and reasonable valueInitial beer was flat but 2nd pint was betterFriendly serviceDear Graham P,Thank you for your review, i am glad that overall you enjoyed the meal, we do keep our prices on a par with other similar establishments in the local area.I hope you give us another try next time you are in the area.Kind RegardsMatthew JonesGeneral Manager

An award winning rustic-smart gastropub, serving the best in local produce and East Anglian ales. Friendly and efficient service perfectly compliment the incredible food served up by chef patron Ben Handley and his team. Norfolk favourites such as Brancas
Had heard that this was a bit special for Sunday lunch so being in the area for a weekend break decided to book a table (well in advance!).. Building has a lovely atmosphere and the place was buzzing, even though we were having a 'late' lunch (2.30ish). Staff were very friendly and efficient and the food was outstanding. Roast beef followed by the Raspberry Bakewell Cheesecake was to die for. Can't recommend highly enough - and the beers were great as well!

My husband booked the day before and told them we would like a nice table for his wifeâs birthday for lunch. When we arrived we were shown to probably the best table in the restaurant with a fantastic view over the marshes. Without exception the staff were brilliant and so was the service and food. After a conversation with Sandra on reception, who was lovely, we mentioned that we might like to go back another time and stay in one of their pet friendly rooms so that we could take our cocker spaniel. Without asking we were taken to one of the rooms to have a look at it to see if we thought it would be suitable. Needless to say we have booked a short break there in January. It was my birthday today and a card was waiting for me wishing me a happy birthday and dessert came out with a birthday message and an indoor firework! Such a nice gesture. The staff all went above and beyond what was expected. A truly rememberable birthday lunch. Thank you.Thank you for your lovely review, I am delighted that you enjoyed your birthday lunch and that Sandra looked after you so well with a tour of the room, a card and pyrotechnics! We look forward to welcoming you back in January. Kind RegardsRob

Four of us had lunch in this country pub. We expected a quiet place but it was busy. Staff seemed rushed. Food reasonable. Small portion of mussells, haddock. Game stew good. Sticky toffee pudding wonderful. Things may have been different because restaurant week menu - 2 courses for £18. Great beer - especially Oakam Citra IPA.

We have used the Nelson for many years, and our last visit I mentioned the food had improved along with the service, however it has changed again. On this visit we find less choice of food available, less food on the plate and all for more money. We had to start with calamari which in fact was three bits on a huge amount of salad, the other starters were of the same portions. The mains had reduced in size and to be honest quality was not the best. This is a real shame, because it was one of a kind and not competing with other restaurants in the market, but now for less money you can get a decent meal at the White Horse in Brancaster Staithe with great views.

The Railway Inn Pub and Bed & Breakfast in Docking is a family owned free-house pub located in the picturesque village of Docking, just a few miles in-land from the scenic North Norfolk coast line.
Visited here today as a âniceâ end to our family holiday.....first of all I am pretty sure this restaurant must be writing their own reviews. We came for the Sunday carvery......if you want rock hard swede, and rock hard parsnips and meat with no juice and dry as a bone then this is your place......the waitress did not come over to check how our meal was at all.....when they came over to collect our plates we pointed out how appalling the food was the staff all came over and actually started arguing with us.....and told us we cleared our plates which we certainly did not. They actually accused us of lying! What a horrific experience with no ambience....an absolute dive. At no point was any reduction to to the meal offered.....thank god for spar up the road.....you know itâs bad when you take a trip to spar after a meal out.
