We booked a table for four and all chose different meals from the menu. All the food arrived quickly, the table service was excellent, the atmosphere was just right and we all had a good memorable evening meal. The only slight negative that I would say is that the vegan choices were limited, and lacked flavour, visually, the vegan meal my Wife chose looked good, but lacked flavor (Vegetable kebabs on a bed of rice).

Called in here following a walk along the beach and over the cliffs and wanted some seafood. Spoilt for choice with the fish specials on the board, I could quite happily have eaten any of them. We opted for the seafood curry with pak Choi and cashews and as my husband has a nut allergy they made sure his was nut free. It was delicious, we added a bit more salt but apart from that it was perfect. Not too spicy to over power the flavour of the fish but gave a lovely warming finish. We would definitely have this again if itâs on the menu. Staff were friendly, happy to help and have service with a smile. Weâve eaten here many times before and Iâm sure we will in the future.Thank you so much for your feedback. It's great to hear that after many visits you are still enjoying the wide range of seafood we offer. The Balinese fish curry from the specials board had been incredibly popular, and it may become a permanent fixture on our specials board. We have a great front of house team who will also be pleased to read the comments about their friendly, smiley and happy service. Thanks again, and I look forward to welcoming you back to the West Bay.

This place is a very popular eating place. We hadn't booked for dinner and it was full but luckily we had arrived late enough for some early diners to have finished and left. The menu is surprisingly good and varied. It has the usual pub grub but some excellent other dishes. My wife had the steak, I had the mussels, both cooked perfectly and v tasty. I'd tossed up between that and Scallops with Black pudding & cauliflower. The beers are good, the wines ok but somewhat restricted in range. Highly recommended but suggest you play safe and book.

While stopping in the area we visited for a family meal on our last night of a family holiday. Party included 6 adults 1 toddler and 2 under one year olds. Nothing was too much trouble and we made very welcome and seated in the restaurant. The food was great and all the family enjoyed our evening. We went outside into the garden for coffee and the children enjoyed the small play area. Great evening to end our perfect family holiday in Dorset. Would certainly visit again if in the area.

Mine Host had his own (unproven) ideas about how to get Steve Smith out, and his Trivia questions were a bit biased, but what a great atmosphere. The food was excellent and well priced, and the staff (including the younger helpers) was A1. Would go back at the drop of a hat!

Not been back here since a year ago. Were a bit nervous, having heard on booking that owners Steve and Tracey were on a night off tonight, but need not have worried. Food was as always, quite outstanding:Venison casserole was bursting with flavour, meat firm but tender. Vegetable sides were just right, slightly firm texture and full of fresh flavour.Venison hamburger was full flavoured and the sides were to die for - coleslaw was obviously freshly hand made with a beautiful tangy sauce and light, crunchy texture, side salad was with a dressing that was lip-smacking. Battered, deep fried crispy onion had the crispest, lightest texture and yet just the right amount of caramelisation to stand up to the richness of the venison hamburger. No frozen onion rings here!Lamb chop was also tender and flavoursome, accompanying chips had a lovely crisp, light outer with a fluffy interior, the best chips I have EVER tested bar none! The menu is wide enough to give plenty of choice, yet still everything shows the depth of attention to detail in fresh, home cooking that sets this place apart from the run of the mill restaurant. If this was in London, you'd pay a hundred pounds a head to get food of this quality, but the prices at the Marquis are firmly mid-range. Beer (Palmer's hand-pulled ales) are kept exceptionally well, wines by the glass are very drinkable and good selection of gins.
