Had a meal here last Sunday on a week break in seahouses, the food is great and a good selection of beers and wines.
I have been stopping at Purdy Lodge with my family for several years when travelling. We mainly stop for breakfast. We have noticed a decline in quality over recent visits, but I think our most recent visit is likely to be our last. The pots of tea were barely large enough for a single cup, and at approximately £2.30 each this seems unreasonably dear. In the past I have asked for HP sauce and always given a bottle to use. This time I was given two satchets of a poor inferior brand. Previously there was marmalade and jam available for the toast, sadly there was none at all on the shelf. The tea cakes also seem to have shrunk, two days previous to this visit we bought one for the same price elsewhere, that was almost double in size. Although the prices have never been cheap for a truckers stop/cafe the quality and quantity made it reasonable value, this is no longer the case. On most previous visits there were plenty of other customers, we have even had to wait for a table on occasion. This time the place was almost entirely empty, just two other customers. Not surprising really. Shame.

Food was very enjoyable. Fish/Chips and Gammon/Chips really good and reasonably priced. The young waiters were exceptional very attentive.

We only called in for coffee purely because we saw that it advertised a "dog only" room. Orders had to be placed at the bar in the main part of the hotel and when our drinks were brought down they were accompanied by biscuits for our dog. How's that for service (which, by the way, was also quick and brought by a friendly person who made a right fuss of our dog). Looking at the menu, there was a good choice and there were plenty of Gluten Free options. This pleased my wife, as she is Gluten Free. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to stay for a meal but next time we are in Bamburgh, we certainly will.

Wanted light lunch and chose mushroom and ham omelettes which came with large homemade chips and salad and a hot lamb roll and ham salad sandwich both with fries. All good except sandwich bread bit dry and not much ham . Lamb came with jug of gravy which was good . Omelettes were very good . With drinks it was £40 . Decor very nice and staff very friendly and helpful.

Had an evening meal here as we were staying in the village in a holiday cottage. Rang during the day to pre book a table as everywhere seemed busy with the lovely Easter weekend sunny weather. Arrived to find the pub extremely busy as the Newcastle football match was being screened live. We had been told this when booking so made the reservation towards the end of the match. The bar area was busy and had to wait a short while to get shown to our table. We ordered our food which came quite quickly given how busy it was. Food was standard pub food. Steak for my husband and Scampi for me. We ate and left as even though the football had finished it was just too crowded and noisy. Staff were helpful and friendly though.

A modern Country Gastro Pub, located in the heart of Lucker village, that offers an exciting gastro experience including superb Sunday lunches, a selection of freshly cooked traditional pub meals with real ales, beers, lagers and ciders, freshly brewed co
Visited for dinner - food was nice, reasonably varied choices and good portions. The service was ok and friendly enough - although getting the mop and bucket out while people are still eating is not ideal. They put us at a table right between the toilets and the passage into the kitchen, even though the place was almost empty. What lets it down the most is the atmosphere in the dining room - it was sort of sterile. Maybe play some music? The blue fairy lights give a sort of cold feel to it. Staff training, some better soft furnishings, music and lighting would go a long way to transforming this into a great gastro pub.Thank you for taking the time to give us some constructive feedback regarding your recent visit to The Apple Inn. Firstly I will speak to the staff regarding the mop and bucket incident as this shouldn't happen when people are still eating and especially not in customers sight. Regarding the table you are describing, I believe you are talking about table 17 which is one of our most popular tables (spacious and close to the bar), I guess this is personal preference however simply asking our staff for a different table would have resolved this issue and the staff would of been more than happy to help. In regards to the Atmosphere, we have a high tech sonos music system in The Apple Inn and we always have background music on (perhaps too quiet), lighting we have changed recently via lighting experts advice but this is something we will continuously look into. It does appear, you have visited us on a quiet evening and as such it can be difficult to create an atmosphere in a spacious environment if the place is not sufficiently filled. We appreciate all feedback and if you would like to take the time to email myself directly at [email protected] I would be happy to discuss further. Thank you for your comments regarding the food and we hope you take the time to visit us again in the future.
