In one way, this little pub in the centre of Ballydehob is a museum to times gone by but it is truly a living museum. Yes, the groceries are on the shelves, the plates are on the dresser in the 'kitchen', the old fashioned couch is in the corner but the voices of the customers on a July night are diverse - from the sing song lilt of West Cork to harder consonants from far flung corners of the globe. The live music played - cancelled unfortunately when we were there - seems to be a blend of traditional and techno. Friendly staff and good Guinness. Don't miss this shrine to the way things used to be!

So the toasted sandwich is really a barely toasted slice of bread with ham and a ridiculous amount of melted cheese flung on top and grilled, a total unedible mess. Hard to believe they could get a toasted sandwich so wrong. Service wasnt good and pretty much everything bugged me about this place. Struggle to understand how it's rated so highly. It's been 2 weeks since we visited and my gf is still giving out about the "toasted" sandwich from hell!

Been here lots at various times of the year. It's rare to get a poor meal here and the portions are huge so go hungry or only order a main course. The servers are usually friendly and efficient. But there's often a problem with the kitchen in busy times. There can be delays or times when they simply stop taking orders as the kitchen backs up. Or they finish early as they have so many orders already in. For someone who prefers to eat nearer to 8pm, I've learned to simply get there before 7pm to ensure a seat and the food. Good choice of food. Kids menu available. If you're not with kids, try eat in the bar or snug area as the main area out the back can be noisy as hell as parents try to crowd control their darlings. Thankfully we're past that stage now!
