Things to do in Angouleme
If you like seafood, particularly oysters and shrimp, there is just no place better to go than here for freshness and flavor. Plus, if youâve a hankering for sole or salmon, buy it at the fishmonger next door and Brice or Sebastian (the owners) will prepare it for you (and serve it with their delicious rice) for 5â¬!! Their Mayonnaise and Aioli are house made and very good... and the feather light cloud of marscapone & whipped cream they serve with the house made apple tart is out of this world. They open early (7:30am) which is great because their coffee is really, really goodThis is a counter style cafe within a beautiful food hall and totally worth the visit if you are in town.

Lets start with basics. This is not in a touristy part of Angouleme. It is however on a main road in a commercial area, close to several supermarkets, the hospital, etc.We visited for lunch mid December 2016. It has reasonable street parking to the front & more parking places to the rear (also a small exterior terrace but being December, that wasn't in use).It seats about 50 people & when we called there were over 40 already eating. it seems to cater primarily for local office/shop/factory workers. We were not offered a menu to read - & as far as I could tell nor was anyone else NB this is not too unusual. There were hand written cards on the walls telling what was on offer & the waitress/proprietor (who spoke a little English) went over it.Primarilly this is a 4 course meal, with wine & coffee costing 13 Euros per person. Which may explain why it was full.Starter was an h'ord deouvres buffet bar - not the biggest Ive ever seen but a decent selection nonetheless. The main was a choice of 2, we had steak (faux fillet). The plates for the main are a little smaller than I expected but had plenty of food on them. Next a small selection of cheeses, followed by the dessert A nice touch with the desserts was that a selection was brought to the table - included in the selection were chocolate coated ice cream lollipops & cornetto type cones. A LOT of people chose these over the more standard desserts. And finally coffee.1/2 litre of wine had also been provided during the meal - & as I say, the total cost was 13 euros per person. From a value perspective, difficult to beat.

This is a great place for a drink or a cocktail, nice interior decor and good atmosphere, but the food is ordinary, especially the pizza. This is the only place in the world that we have ever been served a pizza without a tomato base. The Reblochon chesse is the dreadful, tasteless stuff that they use on the Croque Monsieur, just about inedible. On the other hand the Veal Rognons we excellent as were the deserts, friendly staff. Just make sure you know what you are ordering
