arrived a little early at the Red Lion soaking wet because of the storms but they wouldn't let us into our rooms until 3pm, bit bad we thought. We had a drink while waiting and noticed that the wrong meals kept coming out for other guests this happened four times while we sat there. Next morning at breakfast they got our order wrong and we had to reorder the lady blamed the kitchen staff, they forgot my Wife's breakfast and she had to wait nearly an hour to be served very poor indeed. the evening menu was very limited with not a lot of choice for meals. The rest of our stay was ok with a nice room and a huge tele, the bed was fine but the en-suite was tiny and we only managed to use it once. All in all not a bad stay but I don't think that we shall be returning. micannemac

We often stay in Ambleside but had meant to eat at this restaurant/bar/ hotel sooner. We were not disappointed. The decor is modern but traditional with a good buzz coming from the busy bar and restaurant. Food is freshly prepared and delicious. Service is smart and friendly. We enjoyed the tempura broccoli and mushrooms, lamb rump and hotpot, Chana Masala, plum frangipane and coffee with petit fours. Will certainly be returning

Country Inn and hotel in a perfect Lake District location. Award-winning real ales, delicious home cooked pub food, lovely B&B rooms. A real gem.
This brilliant walkers bar lives up to expectations as always. This really isnât a place for expensive jeans and handbags, itâs a place for walking boots, backpacks and wet dogs on a wet Sunday in September. Weâd booked the nice clean table in the window for 2.30pm and walked in on time and drenched having been waking all morning. As always a great lineup of local beers, gins and the rest youâd expect from an established bar.The food was fabulous and not microwave nuclear. Veggie option of mushroom Wellington for one of our party was more than good as were they all. This is a well run, friendly place serving some great home cooked food. If youâre near take the time to visit but expect to pat some wet dogs.Thankyou for you review, it gives our great staff a real boost to receive some recognition. The Badger Bar has a simple mission: proper food and great beer in a lovely setting. Nothing pretentious, everyone (and their dog) is welcome. We also have dog friendly bedrooms so you could stay longer. For anyone not so keen on our four legged friends, but we do have dog free parts of the bar as well, so everyone can feel comfortable.

Stopped off here just for coffee on our way to our B&B in Ullswater. Weâd already eaten but wished we hadnât as the food looked fabulous & very reasonably priced. We just had coffee which was nice the girl serving was helpful made a big effort making decaf coffee with warm milk. We sat outside in the sun a really nice atmosphere. Really good setting will defiantly be back & will eat there next time.

A truly traditional Lakeland inn. Good food, real ales, bed and breakfast accommodation and self-catering cottages. A warm welcome awaites at the Kings Arms, Hawkshead, which lies in the heart of the English Lake District in the beautiful. The Inn, on Haw
Visited on a Tuesday lunch. Typical homely pub as you would expect here. No airs and graces, just good ale and good pub food. Nice roaring fire, reasonable prices, fast service, allows dogs in the bar area. Not much else I can say. Hits the spot for us and would have no hesitation in going back again.

Muddy boots, Children & Wet Dogs are all Welcome at The Cuckoo Brow Inn! From light bites to hearty meals, we ensure to have something for everyone.
Lovely quirky, Lakeland Pub and Hotel. The public areas are delightful and full of very comfy period furniture. |The food was very very good and the portions are massive. Be careful if you have a starter as you may not finish your main course! Nice friendly staff who provided a good table service.

We were actually stopping in another hotel in the village, but we were walking around and called in here to have our evening meal. The place has recently had new owners. The menu choice was not massive, but something for everyone. The meals we had were gammon, pie, and chicken burger. All meals were very good, and they realised they missed the cheese off the burger, so brought a complete new one out... but we were happy with just a slice of cheese. Desserts very nice also. Nice range of beers, and a lovely friendly service all evening.Hi AlisdairtThank you for your review, we are pleased you enjoyed your experience here. We hope to welcome you back to The Queens Head in the future

For our rather damp week in The Lake District - but nonetheless thoroughly enjoyable - we took a cottage in Outgate. Opposite, across a small paddock with sheep is The Outgate Inn. After a long drive in heavy rain the line of least resistance was dinner there. A decision well rewarded. Excellent beer and food to match. More 'homely' than 'fine dining' the portions are more than ample with a varied menu plus specials. Such is the size that we did not dip into starters or puddings but going by what we had thwy will be top rate too. Between the two of us over our three evenings we sampled six dishes. Not one disappointed but in particular the Duo of lamb Chops were delisiously succulent and the Beef Hotpot stunningly good. That we went three times speaks words; added to which it was comfortably full each time.Service was swift, friendly and efficient.Loved it!Thank you for the great review and we are glad that you enjoyed your visits with us and we look forward to seeing you again.

We stopped by the Sun for dinner whilst camping in Hawkshead. Very friendly welcome and good selection of real ales. We ate the mushroom risotto and the veg curry, both of which were really tasty. Would happily return next time we visit the area.

I had fish and chips - the fish was cooked extremely well where it just glistened as you cut into it, extremely fresh and well cooked. Hubby liked his food and the real ale was also very good. Its not clear when you go in if you order food at the bar or waitress service and as there was no menu on the table, we didn't even know if there was food available. This could be improved upon but not a big deal.My only criticism is a personal bug bear of mine - I don't like food served on boards/slates or anything else that isn't a plate.
