VENUEI've been to Portugal around 6 times and wasn't sure what to expect but looked forward to exploring what this venue had to offer. Located within arcade, entry through canteen style downstairs and upstairs into newly decorated restaurant area. Clean, simple interior with soft music and (sometimes) Portuguese TV. Prompt seating and order taking. Food came quickly. Just 2 other tables occupied and all of them Portuguese. FOOD/DRINKSMy date had the mixed grill and I had the swordfish special (not on menu) with a beer for him and a traditional poncha for me. Mixed grill was excellent and I kept stealing off his plate - genuinely flame grilled and it tasted beautiful. The swordfish was good and vegetables lovely but the batter in which the fish had been done put me off a little bit as it detracted from the fish itself though otherwise very good. Beer was good and as you'd expect. However the poncha was just excellent made with Portuguese moonshine; very punchy, moderately sweet mix of orange, lime and maybe passionfruit. HOSPITALITY/EXPERIENCE Friendly and helpful, very good attendance and all questions answered. Couldn't have asked for much more, especially at £38 final bill. Some small things to note: the stairs are a little steep and narrow, chairs wooden so not the most comfortable. Definitely going back!

Just passing through Littlehampton and looking for lunch. The place was packed, always a good sign. Friendly staff found us a table in the little courtyard garden area. I just fancied a lightish meal so ordered calamari a side of garlic bred and sweet potato ~ tapas style so I thought ~ my beloved ordered omelette and fries. Iced tea and orange squash. The portions are HUGE ~ the omelette was plate sized at least four eggs with a mountain of fries ~ the calamari stacked high with a large mixed salad ~ the garlic bread a large split flatbread and the sweet potato was not the fries I expected but large slices fried. It's not often that I can't finish a meal and believe me I tried as it was delicious. The service was quick and the staff very friendly. The whole feast with the drinks cost £13.70 How do they go it ? On the way out I notice a large tray of Pastéis de Nata ~ custard tarts ~ my absolute favourites ~ I was tempted but She Who Must Be Obeyed was on the street by then and I detected a little bit of foot tapping going on. Next time you golden gorgeous little things ~ next time

Littlehampton has a thriving Portuguese community and there are several cafes in town. This is my favourite serving some of the best Portuguese food I've tasted. Lots of tasty fried meats served with salads and the most divine fried corn bread. I first thought it was saute potatoes it was that nice. The place is always full of really friendly Portuguese people drinking coffee and eating the delicious cakes and pastries. I would recommend the fried chicken! Incredible. Remember to ask for Peri Peri sauce. I love this place.
