Had lunch on a rainy Saturday afternoon. The interior was comfortable and cozy with a bar on one side. The food is typical cuisine from Madeira (seafood, meat) and the portions are generous and decently priced. The owner Marcel was our waiter and was extremely attentive and helpful.Service was fairly quick, washrooms were clean and there is a nice patio that would be great if the weather is good.Solid choice in Santana!Thank you very much welcome again marcels bistro
A typical cafe/bar with the best Poncha in Madeira.
This is the common pick up point at the end of the Levada walk from Referta to Castalejo.Small bar. Some basic outside seating. As you walk the Levada you will see vines growing the Americano grape which is disease resistant & used to make the local version of Madeira wine. The sweet is fine, the dry is a bit rough. Good coffee plus pretty much 125ml glass of wine for â¬3:50.

We booked this restaurant because our usual restaurant in Sao Jorge had a large party for lunch. The serving staff gave us a friendly welcome and were super efficient, and spoke good English (which was great, as we have little Portuguese). After ordering a good bottle of red Alentejo, we ordered 2 of the traditional Madeiran starters on a platter, which comprised 3 different butter recipes, stewed chicken stomach, pork, black-eyed beans, and 3 different types of bread, including potato bread. This combination provided a tasty re-introduction to traditional Madeiran fare. We followed with 3 of the restaurants casseroles cooked overnight in wood-burning ovens, combined variously with steamed vegetables, rice, and potatoes. The lamb and pork were very good but the kid (goat) casserole was a tad watery and included far too many bones, gristle, and fat and was somewhat tasteless. Our party of 4 ordered only 3 portions but this was more than enough for a (large) lunch. Should we visit again, we would only order 2 casseroles for 4 people. Thankfully, we shared; otherwise, the kid would have been a disappointment on its own. For dessert, we had tiramisu (very good), cheesecake (excellent with soft cheese and lovely raspberry reduction in a jar), and passion fruit pudding (only so so). Two of us then finished with some every good espressi. All together, a very good experience with friendly and efficient staff in a comfortable setting. Just what we needed after a fairly lengthy walk along the Levada do Rei. Pretty reasonable prices, too.

We had heard about Lillyâs from a previous trip but had been unable to fit it into our itinerary! Big mistake!!!The restaurant is extremely relaxing very flexible and the food is outstanding! Do try the pre meal madeira wine - dry - it is a delight. We had the calamari, octopus for starters and the filet with mushrooms and RV for mains. Each were superb and the Alvarihno wine with it made our day! Thank you veru much for the comment, we are really pleased for your presence, customers are the reason for our door to be open, see you again, Thank you from all Lily´s team

Very good food Empathic staff1.5 hour for a dish and a dessertNice viewA bit expensive in my opinion Dear customer, we apologize for your delay. In August is the month of more work the other months the service is normal. The food is cooked at the moment, for this reason it may be a little slower, but this is one of the reasons why our customer prefer us. The quality of the food is another, well worth it !!!Regarts

My parents and I came across this beautiful restaurant while driving to the north of Madeira. The estate was really majestic, and with a great view across the valley. We only wanted a very light lunch, and opted for the soup and bolo do caco (Madeiran garlic bread). The bread and our drinks arrived promptly, but we waited on our soups for nearly 25 minutes. The soups were served in a large bowl, and were definitely good value for money considering their size. However, the taste and quality varied a lot. The traditional soup honestly tasted of nothing else than water and thymes. It was the most watery experience weâve ever had. The potato and pea (?) soup was OK, but with little flavor. The fish soup had plenty of fish and shell fish, and a lot of flavor. So; a mixed bag of soups... As we didnât have any mains, Iâm not going to judge the entire restaurant based on its starters. But would expect faster service, and soups with flavor in this kind of establishment...

Located in the Vila Bela Hotel. Good fresh seafood, generous portions, and attentive service. I selected the fish soup with a tuna salad (large portion size) and my wife had grilled sardines. Inside and outside tables are available. Maitre de was a jovial person and fun to talk with.

We were recommended this unassuming little place by a local and it is fantastic.Humble, uncomplicated, superb staff, homely, lovely attention to detail. We came back after the first meal was so good and although a much bigger group and ordering different meals, it was excellent again. You won't be disappointed!

Bistro & Grill ⢠Restaurant ⢠Unique space in Caniço, Madeira Island, where we find a home cooking and cared for.
Recommended by fellow traveller a stone's throw from our hotel. Offers speciality ales and delightful tapas. Portion sizes enormous. See photos! A labour of love for the owner, a chef who will bend backwards to give you tasty morsels and a very bubbly waitress. Went last night going again tonight. But please don't tell!Dear TinaThank you very much for your visit and good mood. We hope to meet again.Thank you!!!
