The place looked so good - in a glass cage protected from the cold winds, table-clothed tables nicely set for the hungry customers. A sprinkle of local diners. The garlic bread was among the best we tasted that week. The white wine was fine. One of us asked for mussels and french fries. The latter were hand-cut and fresh, but unfortunately the huge orange chewy mussels came open faced with a cheese bake. My shrimp risotto looked good but had to be sent back as inedibly over-salted. The replacement Ceasar salad was made of limp lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, greasy strips of chicken, and packaged dried bread. Not a hard-boiled egg, leaf of iceberg or flake of parmesan in sight.Obviously, we chose wrong. People eating the paella looked happy and the monster slices of cheesecake were wolfed down all around us.So, be warned. Choose right!

The terrace is the highlight and gives you one of the best sunset views you will experience in Madeira. Try to get a pit early as front terrace is small and is full at sunset. People at the restaurant are nice. I would suggest more to have snack and drink here. We also ate but food could be really improved with a little bit of effort. Everything was soaked in oil and taste was also OKish. As I said just a little bit care and attention and food quality can be improved. I believe this is more drinks and snack place.

We had dinner on the terrace while the sun was slowly going down. Some graliec bread as starter, followed by chicken on the spit and fish with banana; both portions were huge. As side dish we shared one large portion of fries and one large portion of mixed salad. Both sides were plenty for the two of us to share. Service was friendly, prices reasonable.

Went here for drinks. Terrible over-priced: we payed twice as much for two beers than in similar places nearby.

Adrina our server was knowledgable on wines and the food and very friendly. She made great personalised recommendations. Meal for five people was so reasonable given the food quality. Fish was really well prepared and the octopus was perfectly cooked. Are outside and the views were great.

We went there three times during our stay in Ponta do Sol. For three evenings it was really perfect - great traditional food, English speaking staff, quick serving. Free madeira and poncha servings before/after the meal. We also went there for our last lunch and wanted it to be perfect - but it wasn't. Our waiter was nice but didn't speak English and did not understand my order. So I did not get the snails I ordered. Then we got the laurel sticks with beef, which - mind you - we ate for the third time. This time they were rare, so we asked to grill them again. They did - and they became so chewy and tough that it was impossible to pull the meat off the stick. So we left it all. No one seemed to care.

This may be small but it has a large personality,a large selection of beer is on offer and we were able to choose something different for everyoneâs taste. They only do a small amount of food but the cheese and meat plate was very good and we will visit again.

The Old Pharmacy,a place were you can find the best of portuguese art and taste. We can find portuguese souvenirs, teas, wines and tapas of the highest quality.
Streetside eating at it's very best. When the holidaymakers go home this is one of those lovely, slightly off the beaten track, cafes that isnt crammed with visitors. Food is great, mixed tapas, gorgeous brownies for dessert with perfect ice cream, Its not the cheapest of eateries but then I want goods service, great food and a local environment and this ticks all the boxes.

We didn't expect to find such a casual and relaxed place to enjoy the local seafood. And it was great, we just wish we had more time to try everything. The owners were warm and inviting, really down to earth and dog friendly! Gregorio and Filó were wonderful. The cook was great and even shared a recipe! Lastly, Francisco took great care and even taught a little portuges. Muito bom!
