May be hard to find at first. We were given the reccommendation by the farm we were staying at, La Selva, which is on the same road. Also nearby is a pony club/ riding school. It is a few kms outside Siena center.
We were tired after taking numerous wrong turns on our drive from Pisa to Siena and instead of our estimated 5:30 arrival at Agroturismo La Selva, got there instead at 7:45. The adults were at wit's end and did not want dinner, but just to go to sleep! However, our group of 7 ranged from 8 to 72 years of age so that was not a good idea. Marco, the son of the owner of La Selva , recommended La Vecchia Miniera. We went there reluctantly, with much doubt and not much goodwill left after the long drive. What we found was a packed restaurant where although we showed up with no reservation, did not bat an eyelid or try to embarass us in any way, but got us a nice table in corner inside ( I am not European and hate sitting outside in any case), with a menu in English as well as a menu in Italian. Most of the other customers seemed to be Italian. The food was traditional with an unusual but very pleasant twist and the list of local wines were ssssssssoooooooooooooooo reasonably priced and extremely drinkable that both nights became 2 bottle nights! The bread was out of this world and even those of us (me being one) who were there for a drink and to make sure no one got lost, all ended up having three courses! On the second night, in better frame of mind, we realised that above the great food, (calzone, mussels which normally only I like but which the kids asked for the next night, pasta in wild boar sauce, best pizzas in the world!) what brought us back was also the fantastic service staff! Red (hope I got the name right) was fantastic and explained all sorts of things to us (even probably really stupid things). All the staff were great, only calling on the chap with long hair (Red) when questions got too scary. We even learned why grappa comes in two colors! And my husband, trouble maker that he is, sent my daughter to pay the bill with our English debit card, thank God, not the Singapore credit card) even though I told him a small place like this would probably only deal in cash. Again, no problem, Red sorted it out, without any fuss or embarassment to our very sensitive teenager. So, to sum up, I am sharing this because when we got back to our last stop, my mother in law's in UK, this is the place everyone remembered of our Italy trip (Rome, Florence, Siena, Venice) most. They certainly don't need the good review as they were packed the two nights we visited anyway. In fact, I would say if you you are not staying at La Selva or somewhere equally close, then please make a reservation in case you are not able to get there early enough. But this is one of the genuinely good places in life, where you don't have to pay the earth for a great experience. I have heard the diving in Sardinia is good, so I am sure I will be able to make an excuse to come back to Italy and Tuscany , in a couple of years. And I will definitely come back to this place then. Thanks for all the great memories!

Lovely place! The staff are really friendly and the food is superb. They offer gluten free pizzas and these also seem to be hand made. The ambience is really nice and there is parking nearby. Excellent all round. Thanks for the positive review, I hope to see you soon

Our dear friends, leaving for Australia, chose the Nazionale, a family run restaurant to have lunch. The friendly service and quality home cooked food was excellent. They also cater for vegetarians so I chose a fuori menu (special of the day) Pasta e Cecci, my wife had the Bocconcini di Vitello and our friends enjoyed the Tasca di vitello ripiena con spinaci, being rolled stuffed veal with spinach and grilled zucchini and portions of delicious home cut patate fritte. All accompanied by local white wine. Desserts were naughty particularly the Affogato dark chocolate truffle ice cream drowned with hot coffee. We sat outside on their terrace as it was warm today, but they also have a spacious dining room. Great pizzas available in the evening. This enjoyable celebration lunch was reasonably priced at â¬23 each included cover, aperitifs, bread and sparkling water

The view from Dal Briganteâs terraces is spectacular even at night and the service and food are fantastic. We arrived late after a day trip to Florence and the gracious owner was not concerned. We had simple pasta dishes that were cooked to perfection. Service was quick and very friendly. I would definitely recommend finding this restaurant.

Many of the ingredients come directly from our biological production: jams, fruits, vegetables, olive oil, spontaneous aromatic herbs (rosemary, sage, lesser calamint, chives, wild fennel, peppermint, basil, thyme, marjoram, etc.). The chef is carefully a
Once we had dinner here, we reserved a table for all the following days. It is all home made, original and authentic food with great quality. Combined with the homemade jams, we experienced surprising, amazing new tastes. The price-quality relation is incredible. You get a reallybig meal with several courses for a very good price. The host and chef, Giovanni, is a very humble and charming man, taking good care of his guest and trying to fulfil every wish they may have.We are looking forward to be back there soon!Grazie grazie e un milione di grazie,la attendiamo per futuri giorni di relax e di cucina.Complimenti anche a lei per le emozioni sonore che ci regala.Pablo lo staff e Giovanni Ringraziano

I cannot recommend this place apart from the wonderful views. You need to book to get on the pergola but they really pack everyone in so you can hear others conversations. The service was ok and the food distinctly average. This is a tourist place but if you want really good Tuscan cuisine look elsewhere.

New place into the heart of Italy, real Tuscan place. Try our traditional specialities and enjoy our green space in the middle of the countryside or have a nap in our rooms upstairs.
This is a spacious and bright local eatery, facing the main road, with a large carpark. They had display counters with cold meats in the outer seating area, and ala Carte menu in the inner dining room. Bright artificial flowers decorated the inner dining room. Little children are welcome here. The service was very slow, and the ambience lacked the hospitality and buzz of a thriving restaurant. You will not be pressurised to finish your meal quickly. The Gnochilini with sausage and mushrooms was good but a tad bit salty. Grilled Scamerita drizzled with olive oil very was tough with lots of rubbery cartilage. Tagliatelle with mustard sauce was good.

Very family friendly restaurant full of families with young children. Warm smiling service and good food: Trippa delicious. Seppia in Claypot was interesting. Fillet al tartufo and Grilled lamb were good. The pastas were amazing - Tagliatelle al tartufo and Parpadelle with cacio e Pepe- excellent! The Pigeon could be better.

This was the first night of our third visit to Tuscany. We arrived late in the evening, with a reservation, in off-season, and had the restaurant to ourselves. Iâm reflecting on the experience now, several months later, in the context of a great Tuscan week, which also included Michelin-starred dining. With all that in mind, Ristorante alla Pieve stood outâexceptional pastas, good local wines and a boar-based tasting menu. The charming husband/wife team (service and kitchen), was attentive and generous and very kind. We enjoyed our visit immensely and recommend it to you without hesitation!
