Things to do in Guardiagrele
The pizza at Papi's is delicious and both times we visited on a recent trip, Davide was happily making pizza, singing and dancing. Just loved stopping by for a cold beer, sitting in the sun watching families play in the nearby park or grabbing the Metre Pizza to take home! Such a wonderful family who owns and operates this pizzeria. We will be back on our next visit.

Local located at the foot of the "Maiella" in the heart of "Abruzzo National Park" where nature and tranquility are at home, on the outskirts of Rapino that is geographically in the center between sea and mountains. Passo del Brigante found the perfect co
Probably the best pizza we've had for a while. We stupidly ordered an antipasti which filled us up and meant we couldn't quite finish our individual pizzas. However, the restaurant happily wrapped up our leftovers for us and we enjoyed them again for lunch the following day. Good service, very reasonable prices. We look forward to a return visit.

This is not just a simple "pizzeria".It might look like because the environment is simple and familiar. But the pizza-maker is a professional expert ( with academic degree) in food bio-technologies from University of Bologna. The ingredients are tested and approved by himself in person only if fresh & locally grown. The incredible procedure of "48hours rising " makes this pizza the one you will digest in a blink af an eye. Slow food initiatives happening here . And the price is as little as that of a 'normal' pizzeria. The real value is simply double !!Book in advance !

Amazing, outstanding, delicious, and yes, probably one of the best pizzas I've ever had!The restaurant setting... so cool and hip yet romantic and city-like.I ordered a "diavola" (tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and spicy salami); the amount of tomato sauce and the fresh ingredients went perfectly together. You should try "arrosticini" - Abruzzo's typical dish made from castrated sheep's meat -, too.

Top 10 Italian food in Guardiagrele, Province of Chieti, Italy

We visited with Italian neighbours. The only downside was that there weren't a few more customers on that particular evening as this is a large restaurant capable of seating a large number. However, that did not detract from our experience. We benefitted from very personal service as a result. The evening was to celebrate the season's new wine and the local roast chestnuts. We began with a warm welcome from the young lady on reception, who also acted as our waitress. We were then greeted the relatively new proprietor, who had spent a year in Newcastle and could speak English. He introduced us to his wife and two young children. We the sat down to enjoy a traditional 'Abruzzese' meal consisting of several courses, all accompanied by a constant supply of the 'new wine' that we were celebrating that had been produced not many miles away. My wife, who can be a fussy eater, and myself both thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The food was locally sourced or cooked fresh on the premises. I particularly enjoyed the delicious soup and the roast ribs. We were a bit worried when the word 'anchovies' was mentioned but the owner must have seen our faces as no anchovies appeared and we enjoyed a different fish course instead. The meal was rounded off by a seemingly endless supply of chestnuts freshly roasted over the open fire and some traditional loca music performed by three local musicians on accordions. Between performances the musicians joined us a the table to eat with us and chat in a mixture of Italian, dialect and English. This was a lovely night which passed so quickly and one that we long remember. We have been visiting this area for eight years and this was our first meal here, (I think the change of ownership has helped the hotel's reputation considerably), but I don't think it will be our last. Recommended to locals and visitors alike. A warm welcome and good food awaits you.

We visited the Sherlock Holmes with a party of eleven Italian friends on a very busy Saturday evening. This is obviously a very popular local venue with a mix of customers ranging from a children's party, family groups to young couples and groups of friends. I think we were the only English customers in the place and were dutifully introduced to the staff by our hosts and I have to say that we were made to feel very welcome. The main attraction is obviously the food, particularly the fantastic choice of pizzas. Our table choose a variety to suit our tastes. Because it was so busy we did have to wait a little longer than normal for the freshly cooked pizzas to arrive. We were all served together and everyone really did enjoy their food and it is the food that leads to my recommendation of this restaurant for anyone in the Guardiagrele area who enjoys a good freshly cooked pizza. A speciality of the Sherlock Holmes seems to be pizzas served by the meter which are served on large oblong wooden blocks. These were very popular with groups and come with a variety of toppings ready sliced for sharing. We had a great night and were there for most of the night talking and having a drink after our food. There certainly was no pressure to leave before you were ready to. Try the Sherlock Holmes, you will enjoy it.
